Bungie, the developers behind Destiny 2, have revealed significant modifications to the game’s Portal following the Ash and Iron update. However, many players are expressing worry and disappointment due to the plans unveiled so far for the Edge of Fate expansion, which introduced a multitude of changes to the core experience, including a new hub called Portal for various activities.
Despite initial expectations, the release of The Edge of Fate in July didn’t run as smoothly as Bungie had hoped due to several teething problems associated with the new systems and mechanics. In reality, Destiny 2 players have been exploring effective strategies to optimize their time in Portal activities, such as utilizing Solo Ops for speedrunning missions like K1 Logistics or Caldera, aiming to quickly boost their maximum power level. Unfortunately, it seems that Bungie’s intentions may not have been aligned with these tactics, and it appears adjustments are imminent.
Bungie Announces Plans to Nerf Rewards Earned in Solo Ops
In the most recent blog post from Bungie about Destiny 2, they detailed numerous modifications coming to The Portal. They announced that Fireteam and Pinnacle Ops will receive enhancements along with fresh content to boost their attractiveness. However, what garnered significant attention was the revelation that Solo Ops would decrease the power earned for a certain rank by 1. Bungie aims to prevent Solo Ops from being considered the optimal method of leveling up for all types of players. Unfortunately, this announcement has left many fans disappointed rather than elated, labeling the adjustments as “ignorant” and “unnecessary.
Despite some fans’ discontent with the upcoming changes, it seems that Bungie is indeed taking player feedback into account following their recent announcement. The studio has already confirmed a change in response to this feedback, with the possibility of further adjustments on the horizon. In a subsequent communication from the community team, they have revealed that one modification aimed at encouraging players to visit Rahool in the Destiny 2 Tower to decrypt Prime Engrams is being removed, as it added an unnecessary step for players to collect their loot. The alterations have been applauded by many players, but there persist demands for additional improvements in Solo Ops, Loadout Restrictions, and overall rewards, rather than limiting the available choices.
Bungie has once again faced accusations of reducing enjoyment in their games by nerfing certain elements, as they’re known for swiftly addressing issues that seemingly advantage players. While Bungie strives to maintain game balance, it often appears that significant updates introduce adjustments or nerfs to exotic items, leaving players feeling dissatisfied. For instance, the Third Iteration exotic scout rifle was found to be more powerful than expected and became a popular choice for The Edge of Fate. However, a July update reined in the weapon’s power.
