Destiny 2 Releases Gets New Update for November 2024

Key Takeaways

  • Destiny 2‘s update fixes issues with Mask of Fealty, weapon perks, and Crucible mercy rules.
  • Mercy rule score limits have been increased in Crucible to prevent matches from ending too early.
  • For most players, the biggest part of this update is that the perk weighting issue with weapons is now fixed.

As a seasoned Destiny 2 player with countless hours under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and excitement with this latest update from Bungie. The Mask of Fealty debacle has been a thorn in many Hunters’ sides, and it’s about time that Withering Blades get the crystals they deserve!

In an update, Bungie introduces version 8.1.0.4 for Destiny 2, focusing on resolving problems related to the Mask of Fealty, weapon perk balance, and enhancing mercy rules within the Crucible. Although not a routine event, Bungie consistently updates Destiny 2, tackling frequent problems and larger ones that the player community often brings to light.

Just as anticipated, Episode: Revenant introduced a wealth of new legendary and exotic weapons and armor. However, the highly-anticipated Mask of Fealty exotic from Destiny 2 has been caught up in controversy. In this case, the exotic’s primary perk hasn’t reliably produced crystals as intended, which significantly hampered the spread of Withering Blades. Fortunately, the current update for Destiny 2 addresses and resolves this problem, along with several other critical issues.

In the game Destiny 2, the way mercy rules work has often sparked debate among players. With the release of Episode: Revenant, Bungie made substantial adjustments to the Crucible mode within Destiny 2. Now, with this update, the developers are making further tweaks to the mercy rules by raising the score thresholds that trigger these rules. As Bungie stated, the time frame for activating the mercy rule has been expanded, which means that the score limits for game modes such as Control, Clash, and others have been adjusted as well. This is intended to prevent matches from concluding prematurely when a team has the opportunity to stage a comeback.

Most notably, fans will be thrilled to learn that the long-standing weapon perk weighting problem in Destiny 2 is finally being addressed. Upon the release of the Vesper’s Host dungeon, players found that a valuable roll for the VS Chill Inhibitor grenade launcher was not dropping as expected. After some investigation, it was discovered that there was an uneven distribution of perks in Destiny 2, making certain combinations significantly harder to acquire than others.

Bungie has acknowledged the problem and, as a gesture of gratitude to the community, they’re providing select legendary weapons to Destiny 2 players. After addressing the main issue in this update, Vesper’s Host will provide double drops for completing encounters and activities from November 9 to December 3. Additionally, starting on November 19, players can meet Banshee-44 at the Tower, where he’ll be offering legendary weapon rolls such as Rose, Indebted Kindness, Hothead (Adept), VS Chill inhibitor, and more.

Destiny 2 Update 8.1.0.4 Patch Notes

Crucible

  • Increased the score limits for triggering mercy rules.
    • Previously, the mercy rule would trigger only during a small window in the match, so the score limit to trigger it was intentionally set low. We have increased the window within which the mercy rule can trigger and increased the score limit accordingly to prevent games which still have a chance to be competitive from ending early in a mercy.
      • Control, Iron Banner Control, Iron Banner Eruption, Supremacy – 60 to 70.
      • Zone Control, Iron Banner Zone Control – 50 to 60.
      • Clash – 40 to 50.
  • Competitive rank adjustment now puts less weight on skill differential between player and lobby.
