Destiny 2 Revenant’s Hunter Exotic Controversy Explained

Destiny 2 Revenant's Hunter Exotic Controversy Explained

As a dedicated Destiny 2 player and long-suffering Hunter main, I must admit that this latest update has left me feeling like a kid who just opened a birthday present only to find it’s missing a crucial piece. The new Episode: Revenant has brought some exciting additions to the game, but the issue with the Mask of Fealty exotic helmet has left us Hunters in a bit of a pickle.

In the latest addition to Destiny 2 titled Episode: Revenant, players are presented with an array of fresh weapons and exotics. However, it appears that Hunters may have been slightly overlooked in this update as the newly introduced Hunter-exclusive Mask of Fealty exotic helmet is experiencing a glitch, which hinders players from fully utilizing its potential. Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2, has acknowledged the problem and has announced plans to rectify it by the end of October with an upcoming fix.

Unlike the initial episode “Echoes”, the full premiere of Episode: Revenant’s Act 1 was released simultaneously with the new episode on October 8, rather than being released earlier. The current content for Destiny 2’s Episode: Revenant encompasses the entire first act of the episode, along with the complete season pass for Act 1 featuring a range of fresh cosmetics and armor sets, numerous new weapons and exotic gear pieces, and new Onslaught maps complete with innovative defenses to experiment with. However, some fans have expressed their dissatisfaction over how brief the first act itself turns out to be, despite having access to various helpful concoctions brewed by Eido within the Last City.

Hunter Mains in Destiny 2 Are Getting The Short End of The Stick This Time

Destiny 2 Revenant's Hunter Exotic Controversy Explained

Absolutely, releasing episodic content in full acts instead of weekly installments has its pros and cons. On the bright side, Episode: Revenant has brought fresh content to Destiny 2 enthusiasts, including a couple of new exotic weapons and an exotic armor piece for each class. However, the Hunter’s new Mask of Fealty has been met with controversy as it was released in a bugged state. This isn’t the first time Hunter fans have faced such issues, as you might recall Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk being unavailable for nearly a month due to a bug soon after its introduction two years ago.

What The Exotic Mask of Fealty Does

It’s fortunate that the problem associated with the latest Destiny 2 Hunter exotic isn’t as severe as initially feared. The Mask of Fealty exotic helmet enhances the stasis abilities of the Hunter class, making strikes and bounces with the Withering Blade melee ability not only replenish melee energy, but also produce stasis crystals. Moreover, breaking frozen enemies and stasis crystals with Withering Blade will lead to more Withering Blades emerging from the blast.

The Problem With This New Hunter Exotic

The only problem is that shattering frozen enemies with the melee ability isn’t consistently spawning a spread of Withering Blades as it should. While it’s true that every other component of the exotic appears to be functioning correctly, the ability to spawn more blades from destroying frozen enemies is a big deal – potentially even being the most valuable effect that the exotic provides. There’s a lot of potential for the melee ability to synergize nicely with other utilities in Destiny 2 such as the Duskfield Grenade, which can offer a quick and easy way of freezing groups of enemies quickly.

When Fans Should Expect to See a Fix

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment that the fix for the current issue with my favorite exotic isn’t arriving until later this month. Bungie assures us that they’re working on it and it’ll be part of the end-of-October hotfix. Until then, we’ve just got to hang in there and make do with what we’ve got. It’s a real bummer that I won’t get to explore this exotic’s full potential before the new Vesper’s Host dungeon goes live on October 11. Once the problem is sorted, though, this new exotic helmet is going to open up some incredibly powerful build options for my Hunter character as we move forward in Destiny 2.
