So, it sounds like the big update Destiny 2 was supposed to get is being pushed back. Apparently, Bungie wants to make sure their new game, Marathon – it’s an extraction shooter coming out in early March – gets the focus it deserves first. It’s a bit of a bummer for Destiny 2, but I get wanting to launch a new game strong!
The upcoming Destiny 2 update, Shadow & Order, was initially planned to launch on March 3rd. But after Bungie announced the release date for the Marathon update on Monday, Forbes reported that Shadow & Order has been delayed. Currently, there’s no new date for when the update will be available.
I’ve heard that the release of Shadow and Order has been pushed back to make way for Marathon, which was originally scheduled for March 3rd. We don’t know yet how long the delay will be or when an official announcement will be made.

Shadow & Order is the last big update planned for the Year of Prophecy season, which began with the Rite of the Nine event in May 2025.
There Will Be Crossover Promotions Between Destiny and Marathon
The marketing campaign for the upcoming Marathon game is in full swing. Destiny 2 players who pre-order it will receive exclusive in-game items like character cosmetics, Sparrows, and Ships. The pre-order also includes new shaders, emotes, and other celebratory items to mark the game’s release.
Enter the shadowy sci-fi universe of Tau Ceti IV starting March 5, 2026.
To honor the original @MarathonTheGame, Destiny 2 is offering the new ‘Waiting for Exfil’ emote, ‘Silkworm Weave’ shader, and a unique ornament for the Modern MIDA Multi-Tool Exotic weapon. These items are available for all players through Eververse.
