Destiny 2 Has Hit Its Lowest 24-Hour Concurrent Player Peak Since Launch
Recent data from Steam Charts reveals that *Destiny 2* had a peak of only 30,228 players in the last 24 hours. This is the lowest peak the game has ever seen, beating the previous record of 36,488 players set in December 2024. While this is a new low, it’s not entirely unexpected. Between July and September 2025, the number of players on Steam dropped by almost 80%, and the game only reached 50,000 simultaneous players once in September.
While Steam isn’t the only place people play *Destiny 2*, many players have been expressing their disappointment with the game recently. The timing isn’t great, as other similar games, like *Borderlands 4*, have become popular. A lot of *Destiny 2* players are now trying *Borderlands 4* because it offers a similar experience but a fresh start after frustrations with *Destiny 2*’s ongoing updates. *Borderlands 4* has had its own problems, so it’s unclear if players will return to *Destiny 2* in the future, but currently, things are challenging for the game’s developer, Bungie.
Bungie is facing challenges beyond just the *Destiny* franchise. Morale among developers is reportedly plummeting, especially with the ongoing delays and issues surrounding *Marathon*. The underperformance of *Destiny 2* isn’t helping the situation. Despite these difficulties, Sony, Bungie’s parent company, remains optimistic about its live service games and believes things can improve. It’s unclear if *Destiny 2* will be a key part of that turnaround, or when that improvement might happen.
