Destiny 2’s Court of Blades Exposes Major Loot Problems That Bungie Needs to Fix!

Summary

  • Destiny 2’s Episode Heresy offers good activities and weapons, plus an interesting storyline with Eris Morn.
  • The Court of Blades provides challenges and loot, but shines a light on the game’s loot issue.
  • Expert mode in Court of Blades does not guarantee valuable Adept weapons, making farming not worth the effort.

So far, Destiny 2‘s Episode Heresy has been received well by players thanks to its good activities and weapons as well as an interesting story following the presumed death of Eris Morn and the aftermath of it all. Destiny 2‘s The Nether activity showed how good roguelike elements can be in the game, even if not all players enjoyed the whole “health as a currency” theme, meaning that Bungie can still workshop this for future content. As for the new Court of Blades, it’s a nice change of pace compared to The Nether, as players are tasked with challenging several powerful enemies in a row while getting new buffs. However, Court of Blades shows there is a big problem with loot in the game.

Destiny 2‘s Frontiers later this year will change how some things work in the game, from its new armor system to changing the content model to smaller releases and ditching yearly expansions. Although it remains to be seen what Bungie will do about loot in Destiny 2, it’s arguably one of the most pressing issues within the game. Weapon crafting seems mostly a thing of the past now, but one of the biggest issues is that the space-magic game often fails to reward players’ time – and Court of Blades is further proof of this.

Destiny 2’s Court of Blades is Further Proof Guaranteed Drops on Expert Are Needed

Destiny 2‘s new Court of Blades activity sounds great in theory, and that’s because it’s all about killing a bunch of enemies and bigger targets one after the other while getting temporary boosts to one’s build and some good loot at the end. Loot is improved based on how many boss targets players defeat, with the best rewards supposedly coming if players defeat all bosses and are also playing on Expert mode, which is more difficult and time-consuming compared to Normal.

The kick would be that Expert mode drops the very valuable “shiny” Heresy seasonal weapons in Destiny 2, meaning variants of these guns that have more double perks in each column and also come with an extra Origin Trait in the form of Runneth Over from the King’s Fall Raid. These weapons can be very good drops, especially without crafting options, so it’s theoretically worth it to try and get the best rolls on an Adept gun since it will both have the extra Origin Trait and access to Adept mods. However, the Court of Blades on Expert doesn’t even guarantee Adept weapons on Expert completions where players defeat all bosses.

This is a major issue within Destiny 2 that has been going on for quite some time, as Guardians are often not rewarded properly for the time they put into playing. In the case of Court of Blades, players had already expressed disappointment at the fact that The Nether wouldn’t guarantee at least one Adept/shiny weapon on completion on Expert difficulty in Destiny 2, so the expectation was that Bungie would change this for other seasonal activities. This is not the case, and the benefits of running Court of Blades on Expert are very little.

Why Getting Adept God Rolls in Destiny 2’s Court of Blades is Hard

The problem is that not only players have to have RNG on their side in order to get an Adept weapon to drop in the first place, but then they also need the correct weapon with the correct perks. By the time one completes a few runs of Court of Blades on Expert, they could have completed several others on Normal. As much as Adept weapons in Destiny 2 are great to have, particularly so if they can be enhanced, Court of Blades and other activities are currently not worth farming on Expert – and it’s something that Destiny 2‘s Frontiers should address sooner rather than later.
