Destiny 2’s Heresy May Have Spoiled the Entire Expansion

Summary

  • Episode Heresy is a well-received and successful expansion for Destiny 2.
  • The Echo of Navigation and the Dreadnaught may play a crucial role in Destiny 2’s future developments.
  • Guardians may get Oryx’s Echo of Navigation to travel away from Sol in Frontiers.

Regardless of certain glitches and criticisms associated with Destiny 2’s Episode Heresy, it has undeniably emerged as one of the most acclaimed episodes within the series. This is a positive sign given that it paves the way for Frontiers, especially since details about the expansion are scant, and we are yet to learn how Bungie plans to evolve the game in the future. One of the reasons Heresy for Destiny 2 has garnered appreciation is its abundance of hidden secrets, a feature that players often admire. The discovery of these secrets on the Dreadnaught can be particularly nostalgic for long-time gamers. Although the storyline of Heresy is compelling, it seems that its conclusion may have already been foreshadowed.

Unfortunately, the narrative of Heresy is hindered by a significant problem: two major characters lack spoken dialogue because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Characters like Sloane and Xivu Arath, who are key figures in Heresy and prominent in Destiny 2 as a whole, have their performances reduced to on-screen subtitles instead of their usual voiced roles. Sloane serves as the primary NPC following the prologue’s events, while Xivu Arath appeared recently in the Kludge mission, hinting at potential outcomes for Heresy.

Major spoilers for Destiny 2’s Episode Heresy ahead.

How Heresy’s Last Act 1 Mission “Spoils” Act 3’s Finale in Destiny 2

In Destiny 2, Kludge serves as the inaugural mission for Act 1 of Heresy. This phase requires the Guardian to infiltrate the Dreadnaught to disrupt its internal systems. Upon cracking the Byosystems, the HUD announces a recognizable, noble voice resonating within the Hall of Souls. It is here that the Guardian encounters the Echo of Navigation, an apparition of Oryx prior to his defeat on his own vessel. Accompanying him are the lingering Hive Deities – Xivu Arath and Savathun. Upon discovering his own demise at the hands of the Guardian, Oryx from Destiny 2 remains unfazed, instead displaying a newfound curiosity.

It’s not unexpected that Oryx adhered to the Sword Logic, and the Echo of Navigation reasons that his demise was warranted because he lacked the strength to withstand it. This contradicts Xivu Arath’s assertion that she will resurrect him once her slayer is vanquished. Given this, there’s a good chance Xivu Arath may serve as a boss in Destiny 2’s Heresy, assuming she doesn’t meet her end. However, even if she survives, she might attempt to eliminate the Guardian to revive her brother, which further strengthens this assumption.

Destiny 2 Will Likely Make Players Fight Oryx For The Dreadnaught and His Echo

Following Kludge, Sloane expresses concern that the Navigational Echo poses too great a risk and needs to be eliminated. Yet, it might be wise for Oryx to test the Guardian’s prowess once more, with victory earning them the Navigational Echo. This action would compel him to adhere to the Sword Logic again, but this isn’t all. The journey ahead in Destiny 2 will take players beyond the Sol System for the first time, and what could be more fitting than granting Guardians the Navigational Echo and the entire Dreadnaught as their ship?

This seems even more likely now that the H.E.L.M. crashed in Revenant.

In the narrative, since Episodic armor is typically worn by admirals and navigators with a Hive ambiance, it’s logical that Heresy serves as the bridge for Destiny 2’s Frontiers. If the Guardian and their companions secure control over the Dreadnaught and the Echo of Navigation, they would be capable of venturing anywhere, thus potentially wrapping up Heresy on a high note and initiating Frontiers in an impressive fashion. Whether this is the exact sequence of events or not, it appears to be quite plausible.
