Summary
- Destiny 2’s new Kepler setting has left players wanting more beyond the Solar System.
- Players hope for Destiny 2 to explore distant locations like Torobatl and Fundament.
- Bungie may need to go beyond Kepler for the game to make a big splash post-The Final Shape.
Initially, it was challenging to surpass the decade-long narrative that shaped Destiny 2’s fundamental essence, but now, the game is prepared to unfold a fresh tale. In The Edge of Fate, Guardians are summoned to Kepler, a tiny celestial body on the Solar System’s edge, responding to the enigmatic summons from the Nine, despite little understanding as to why. On this desolate planetoid, they will encounter dark matter, banished Fallen, and oddly familiar scenes plucked directly from history.
There’s one question arising about Destiny 2’s new story arc that has sparked curiosity. Bungie suggested that Frontiers, the next chapter following The Final Shape, would take Destiny 2 beyond the Solar System for the first time. However, with the revelation of Kepler being located in the Oort Cloud, some players question if this is a significant departure from the previous setting as was initially implied. Under these circumstances, it may be beneficial for Destiny 2 to explore even more distant regions.
Destiny 2 Needs to Go Further Than Kepler for the Edge of Fate to Hit Hard
The popular game Destiny 2 experienced a significant decline in player numbers following the release of The Final Shape, as players felt they had reached the conclusion of the story and saw it as a logical point to leave. Bungie anticipated this and hinted at Frontiers during the launch of The Final Shape, aiming to keep gamers engaged with the game’s continuing narrative. However, when Frontiers were finally unveiled, they fell short of player expectations, as Bungie had previously suggested that Frontiers would extend beyond our Solar System. Instead, Kepler was found just past Pluto, a closer location than many had imagined.
In its extensive journey through the Solar System, Destiny has given players a glimpse into most planets, crafting captivating tales about them. However, some dedicated fans express a wish for a fresh start, moving away from this familiar cosmic region. Leaks and whispers surrounding Destiny 2 have added fuel to this desire for unexplored galaxies, but it’s important to note that Bungie does not dictate these speculations. This can sometimes lead to misaligned player expectations.
There Are So Many Places Outside the Solar System Destiny 2 Could Go
After triumphing over the threat to our Solar System and boasting an array of diverse settings, it’s now high time for Destiny 2 to venture beyond familiar grounds. Instead of merely revisiting Kepler, the game should delve into unexplored, distant realms. There are countless stories within Destiny’s extensive lore that hint at locations far beyond the Sun’s grasp, like Torobatl, the desecrated homeworld of the Cabal, and Fundament, where the Hive sisters forged pacts with the Worm Gods. Even a previously uncharted planet could prove just as captivating, if not even more so.
In other words, the new content introduced through expansions for Destiny 2 doesn’t have to replace or diminish what is currently available within the game. Instead, these expansions could serve as journeys into unexplored territories, if Bungie prefers to handle things prudently. It remains a possibility that Kepler serves as a starting point for something grander, but with Renegades drawing inspiration from Star Wars, it’s uncertain how this connection might materialize in the near future.
Destiny 2 Renegades will launch December 2 2025.
Essentially, Destiny 2 is under pressure to make a significant impact now that its initial storyline has concluded. Some believe Kepler might be playing it too cautious. Although Bungie could be holding back some of the game’s vast potential, much remains unrealized thus far. While recent updates have generated excitement among fans, others are left disappointed, yearning for Destiny 2 to take a daring leap and explore new planets beyond Earth. With numerous years of content still planned for the game, there may be some players who choose to step away until a comprehensive overhaul occurs, potentially in Destiny 3.
