Detroit: Become Human Just Sold One Million Copies in Two Weeks

Detroit: Become Human is a truly exceptional story-based adventure game. Developed by Quantic Dream and originally released in 2018, it later became available on Steam in 2020. The game centers around a group of androids who fight for their freedom, rebelling against the humans who created and control them.

Detroit: Become Human has quickly become a popular game on Steam, ranking as the second best-selling title after ARC Raiders and selling close to one million copies in just the last two weeks.

Why is Detroit: Become Human Surging on Steam?

A new report from Alinea Analytics shows Steam had a very strong December 2025, earning $1.6 billion in revenue. That’s over 22% more than in the same month the previous year. The success was largely thanks to popular new game releases, especially ARC Raiders, which sold incredibly well right away.

I was really surprised to see Detroit: Become Human popping up on the charts recently! Apparently, according to Alinea, it sold almost a million copies – around 993,000 – between December 21st and January 5th. That’s incredible for a game that first came out nearly eight years ago!

According to Alinea’s report, the game’s massive increase in popularity was due to a significant price drop – the biggest discount it has ever had on the platform. The price fell from $40 to only $4, offering excellent value for gamers.

During the same period, ARC Raiders outperformed Detroit: Become Human, selling approximately 1.2 million copies on Steam.

Games like PEAK, Battlefield 6, and R.E.P.O. were also popular and appeared on Steam’s best-seller lists.

As a huge fan, I can tell you Detroit: Become Human is an incredible and deeply emotional game. It’s similar to other Quantic Dream titles like Beyond: Two Souls, Heavy Rain, and Until Dawn in that you really control everything your characters do. Every choice matters and drastically changes the story, leading to a ton of different endings and a really branching narrative. It’s amazing!

Detroit: Become Human reached its highest ever number of concurrent players on January 4th, with 25,615 users playing at the same time, likely boosted by recent sales.
