Developer Behind One of Steam’s Most-Played 2025 Games is Working on a Sequel

Marcel Zurawka, the creator of the popular game Bongo Cat, is releasing a new game called Tap Tap Loot. It will be available exclusively on Steam and builds on the simple, addictive gameplay that made Bongo Cat so successful.

Launched in early May 2025, Bongo Cat quickly became a hit on Steam. Its charming combination of collecting cute items and a built-in timer appealed to a large audience, with the game reaching almost 195,000 players at its peak. This number put it just outside the top 30 most popular games on Steam for the year. Among more relaxed games, Bongo Cat was the second biggest release of 2025, only slightly behind Banana, a popular clicker game from 2024 that continued to perform well.

Bongo Cat Is Getting a Spiritual Sequel

In mid-January 2026, Irox Games, the publisher of Bongo Cat, revealed that a new casual game is coming to Steam. Called Tap Tap Loot, the game was first announced in February 2023 and is being developed by Marcel Zurawka, the creator of Bongo Cat, alongside Turtle Knight Games. Unlike Bongo Cat, Tap Tap Loot focuses more on active gameplay, offering a similar experience to incremental games. Players will follow a group of adorable cats on their adventures and can help them by staying engaged with the game. Like Bongo Cat, every action you take with your mouse or keyboard creates a visible reaction, but Tap Tap Loot builds on this by giving the cats combat bonuses based on how active the player is.

Tap Tap Loot Playtest Currently Underway

Irox Games

As of early February 2026, the Steam page for Tap Tap Loot indicates it will be released soon. The developers recently started a small-scale playtest to find and fix any remaining problems. Invitations began going out in late January, and each participant received one invite for themselves, plus three additional invites to share with friends on Steam.

The huge popularity of Bongo Cat and its in-game trading show that many PC gamers still enjoy simple, easy-to-play clicking games. Tap Tap Loot aims to capture this audience with a more developed game that lets you play with friends while still offering the relaxed, background gameplay people like. Inspired by a surprisingly successful multiplayer feature in Bongo Cat last summer, Tap Tap Loot will launch with a co-op mode allowing up to four players to play together.

Similar to the popular game Bongo Cat, Tap Tap Loot will be free to play on Steam and rely entirely on players buying items within the game to support it. The developers plan to regularly add new cosmetic items for players to purchase. However, the game’s design also allows for other types of in-game purchases that some players might not enjoy.

Tap Tap Loot Developer Has One More Game in the Works

Turtle Knight, the team behind Tap Tap Loot, is a small game studio in Germany. They’ve released one game so far: Footgun: Underground. It’s a fast-paced, physics-based soccer game with roguelite elements, striking pixel art, and—surprisingly—piñatas! Footgun Underground is a truly original game, pushing boundaries with its unique design. Currently, Turtle Knight is also developing KinPath, a strategy auto-battler with a beautiful art style that resembles cozy children’s illustrations. However, it’s still unclear if this charming look is a true reflection of the game’s nature. KinPath was first announced in the summer of 2025, and a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
