The creators of the popular game ‘Unrecord’ have secured funding from Tencent, which will help them develop the game faster.
Tencent has invested in Drama Games, the publisher of Unrecord, taking a small ownership share, though the exact amount of the investment and the percentage of the company owned weren’t revealed, according to gamesindustry.biz.
After our first trailer generated a lot of excitement, we’ve been working incredibly hard to create a game that lives up to what our players are hoping for, according to Theo Hiribarne, CEO and founder of Drama Studios.
We were thrilled to partner with Tencent. They’re not only a leading company, but the team truly understands and believes in our game and what we’re trying to achieve. Despite their size, they’ve been incredibly respectful, humble, and supportive of our creative vision. They took a chance on us early on and have helped us grow every step of the way. We’re certain this partnership will allow us to reach our full potential.
Mark Maslowicz, VP of Partnerships at Tencent Games Europe, stated that Tencent is highly impressed with the creativity and ambition of Drama Studios, particularly their achievements with the game Unrecord, despite being a small team with limited funding. This investment is intended to help Drama Studios reach its full potential and create exceptional games, and Tencent is thrilled to support them on this journey.
Currently, Unrecord doesn’t have a confirmed release date and is only planned for PC. Despite this, it’s already quite popular, ranking ninth on Steam’s wishlist.
The studio received $2.5 million in a seed series investment from The Games Fund in September 2024.
