As a long-time follower of One Piece, I’ve noticed that Eiichiro Oda really loves to think outside the box when designing Devil Fruit powers. Sometimes, though, those powers become so strange and complex that they’re hard to understand – even after hundreds of chapters and episodes, some still feel completely baffling!
These Devil Fruit powers aren’t necessarily weak, though. Often, their unpredictability actually gives users an edge in battle, and fans find them especially interesting because of it. Given how expansive the *One Piece* world is, it’s natural that some Devil Fruits would have abilities that are hard to understand – the examples below are some of the most confusing.
7. Millet Millet Fruit
A Bulks Of Kaido’s Army Became Brainwashed By…Small Balls Of Dango?
- User: Tama
- Type: Paramecia
When Luffy first arrives in Wano, he meets a young girl named Tama. At first, she doesn’t seem like a major player in the story, especially since she’s a child and can’t fight Kaido’s powerful pirates. However, Tama surprisingly becomes incredibly important to Luffy’s alliance with the samurai. This is thanks to her unique Devil Fruit power, which lets her create small, edible dumplings (dango) by pinching her cheeks.
Surprisingly, these balls could completely control the minds of any animal that ate them, including the members of Kaido’s crew, who had already developed animal-like traits from eating SMILE fruits. Many fans found it hard to believe that Tama could turn so many of Kaido’s crew against him, and this turn of events unexpectedly made her Devil Fruit seem incredibly powerful – almost unbelievably so.
6. Dark Dark Fruit
There’s Clearly A Lot More To This Devastating Devil Fruit Than Meets The Eye
- User: Blackbeard
- Type: Logia
The Dark-Dark Fruit is often considered a Logia-type Devil Fruit, but it operates differently from most others in that category. While users like Blackbeard can control darkness, they can’t become completely intangible like typical Logia users. Instead, Blackbeard’s ability functions more like a black hole, pulling anything nearby into it. This means physical attacks are actually *more* effective against him than they would be against someone who can fully materialize and dematerialize.
I’ve always found this Devil Fruit fascinating. It’s unique because, as far as we know, it’s the only one that can actually stop others from using *their* Devil Fruit powers during a fight. That alone has made it incredibly mysterious since it first appeared. It’s a bit odd that it’s considered a Logia-type fruit, honestly, because its ability doesn’t quite fit the usual pattern. I’m hoping future storylines will shed more light on how this power works and maybe explain why it’s categorized the way it is.
5. Door Door Fruit
Doors That Allow Blueno To Essentially Teleport
- User: Blueno
- Type: Paramecia
While Blueno’s ability to make doors on surfaces might not seem that powerful, his Devil Fruit actually does much more. He can create doors anywhere, even in mid-air, allowing him to teleport. This makes his fruit one of the strangest and most unusual abilities seen in the series.
Watching *One Piece*, you quickly realize it’s not a show built on realism. But even for this series, Blueno’s doors were a bit much! He’d just walk through a door that would appear out of nowhere, and it felt like he was stepping into another world. The show hints that each door leads to a small, separate dimension, which is supposed to explain how his Devil Fruit power works, but honestly, it’s still a pretty strange concept to fully understand.
4. Isle Isle Fruit
A Humanoid Island Is One Of The Most Bizarre Sights In The Series
- User: Pizarro
- Type: Paramecia
Blackbeard’s pirates have found a lot of strange Devil Fruits, but Pizarro’s Isle-Isle Fruit is arguably the weirdest. This fruit allows Pizarro to merge with an entire island, which is strange enough, but he can also create body parts directly from the island itself. We saw this during the Egghead Island arc when he nearly destroyed Garp’s ship by forming massive limbs from the land.
Adding to all of that, he can somehow communicate with his enemies even though he isn’t in his physical body. Since this power was just introduced, it’s likely the author will explore it further, and fans are hoping for more details about how it works.
3. Hobby Hobby Fruit
A Fruit Ability That’s So Powerful, It’s Hard To Comprehend
- User: Sugar
- Type: Paramecia
The world of *One Piece* features many incredibly strong Devil Fruits, but Sugar’s Hobby Hobby Fruit is particularly devastating – it’s almost hard to grasp just how powerful it is. This fruit allows Sugar to turn anyone she touches into a toy, and as a result, everyone completely forgets that person ever existed, effectively erasing them from the world.
Compared to the other powerful Devil Fruits used by Doflamingo’s family, Sugar’s ability is exceptionally strong – almost god-like. It’s surprisingly powerful for someone so young. This fruit also has a strange side effect: it stops the user from aging, explaining why Sugar appears to be a child even though she’s in her twenties. It feels odd that such a potentially top-tier Devil Fruit was introduced mid-story, used briefly, and then largely sidelined, which continues to fuel debate among fans online.
2. Wash Wash Fruit
What Sorts Of Effects Does This Fruit Have On Pirates Once They’ve Been Freshly Cleaned?
- User: Tsuru
- Type: Paramecia
The Wash Wash Fruit hasn’t been featured much in the series, and that’s why its power remains confusing. It allows Tsuru to essentially flatten her opponents, then ‘hang’ them out to dry, but the full extent of what that actually *does* to them is still a mystery. It just hasn’t been explained or shown in detail enough.
There’s been a lot of speculation about what this ability actually does. Some think it’s primarily for support, like helping Marines cool down after a tough mission. The author, Oda, has hinted it might even be able to ‘cleanse’ a pirate’s heart, though it’s unclear how that would work. Hopefully, we’ll see this Devil Fruit used again so fans can understand its true purpose, as right now, everyone is just making educated guesses.
1. Op Op Fruit
The Most Unpredictable And Random Fruit In The Entire Series
- User: Law
- Type: Paramecia
When the Op Op Fruit first appeared in the Sabaody Archipelago, it seemed like a fairly understandable power, albeit a bit complex. However, as the story progressed, it’s become increasingly erratic and unpredictable. It now feels like the author, Eiichiro Oda, isn’t even sure how it fully works, as Law consistently reveals new abilities without any apparent limitations.
Law’s Devil Fruit is incredibly versatile. He can teleport himself and others, swap bodies with people, generate soundproof shields, and even inflict fatal injuries using a technique called the Gamma Knife. Because of its unpredictable nature and vast potential, many fans have stopped trying to guess the limits of his powers – it’s impossible to know what ability he’ll use next in a fight.
