Summary

  • Astroneer, Stronghold, and Serious Sam follow that up with 80, 50, and 45 million respectively.

As a gamer myself, I’m pretty stoked to share that my favorite indie publisher, Devolver Digital, has spilled the beans about their top-selling game, and it turns out to be none other than the captivating roguelike sensation, Cult of the Lamb. This game took the gaming world by storm, skyrocketing Devolver Digital to new heights of recognition and raking in a staggering revenue of over $90 million.

Established by seasoned video game professionals back in 2009, Devolver Digital initially made its mark by releasing games within the Serious Sam series. However, after the successful launch of Hotline Miami, developed by Dennaton Games in 2012, the publisher’s focus began to shift towards independent (indie) games. Since then, they have published numerous indie titles, such as The Talos Principle (2014), Gris (2018), Katana Zero (2019), and more recently, Cult of the Lamb (2022).

Currently, Devolver Digital has unveiled a report highlighting their top 10 franchises by projected earnings up to 2024. This information was circulated on social media by industry analyst mauronl. Notably, Cult of the Lamb, an emerging intellectual property featuring a single game, takes the lead with more than $90 million in revenue. Close behind is another successful franchise, Astroneer, which has also produced only one game and amassed over $80 million for the publisher. The Stronghold series comes next, boasting nine games and earning more than $50 million.

Astroneer revenue tops $80M, while Stronghold sales brought in over $50M. Serious Sam made over $45M across 11 titles. — (@mauronl.bsky.social) 2025-04-15T13:41:41.305Z

It might come as a shock to some fans that, although it boasts 11 games, the Serious Sam series ranks fourth in revenue with approximately $45 million. The Hotline Miami franchise, which is also well-liked, lands in sixth place with around $30 million. Other franchises from Devolver Digital on this list include Gungeon (fifth), Shadow Warrior (sixth), The Talos Principle (eighth), Reigns (ninth), and Gorn (tenth).

Given the overwhelming acclaim for the game “Cult of the Lamb“, it’s somewhat expected yet still impressive to find it at the peak. The game’s engrossing roguelike features and charming visual style have earned it an average critic rating of 84 on OpenCritic. This positive reception has propelled the game to release several DLC packs and expansions, significantly boosting its earnings over time.

The data suggests that the Nintendo Switch is Devolver Digital’s top-selling console, having moved over 9 million copies of their games. Slides from Devolver Digital suggest a potential growth opportunity following the launch of the Switch 2 in June 2025, hinting that this platform could continue to be significant for the publisher.
