During the Sundance Film Festival, I received an unexpected call regarding another film project. It wasn’t an easy choice because this role will significantly shape my final years in the industry. However, I’m thrilled about it! Some remarkable individuals are breathing new life into Harry Potter. That’s what makes the decision so challenging. By the time we wrap up, I’ll be nearly 87 years old, but I’ve agreed to join them.
At present, Lithgow is the only actor confirmed for the Harry Potter television series. However, there are rumors swirling that Paapa Essiedu is HBO’s prime choice to portray Severus Snape. Auditions have been held for the lead characters of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, but as of now, the identities of those who will bring these iconic roles to life remain a mystery.
The upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series plans to devote an entire season to each novel by JK Rowling, which fans believe will provide a chance for characters and plotlines that were underrepresented in the movies to shine. Expected to premiere between late 2026 and early 2027, filming of the episodes will start in summer 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, where the original films were also produced.
