Diablo 4 players fear Spiritborn is just a copy of fan-favorite classes

As a long-time Diablo fan and avid gamer, I’ve spent countless hours exploring the dark and twisted worlds Blizzard has created. With the announcement of Diablo 4’s upcoming expansion, Vessel of Hatred, and the introduction of the Spiritborn class, my excitement was palpable. However, as someone who’s played every installment since Diablo 2, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of disappointment when I saw the gameplay trailer.

Diablo 4‘s upcoming expansion, Vessel of Hatred will introduce the brand-new Spiritborn class, but some players aren’t impressed with its resemblance to the Druid and Monk classes from previous games.

During a special livestream on July 18, Blizzard shared all the essential details about the Spiritborn class. Hailing from the jungle tribes of Nahantu, these new combatants have the ability to call upon Spirits to join them in battle.

Nevertheless, some Diablo enthusiasts expressed the opinion that this new class resembled existing ones too closely. They voiced their concerns on Reddit, labeling it as a “more appealing Druid” or a “greener Monk.”

“A player expressed confusion, saying ‘What’s going on here? It seems like they found buffing Druid to be too challenging, so instead they added a skinnier version.’ Others were of the opinion that ‘Nothing new has been introduced for this class.'”

A significant feature of Spiritborn’s gameplay involves utilizing its Guardian Spirits, or familiars, in combat. This mechanic is likely the reason for comparisons between Spiritborn and classes like the Druid and Monk. Additionally, due to its Amazonian design, some players draw parallels with Diablo 3’s Witch Doctor.

“Another player expressed frustration over hearing ‘It’s completely new, it’s nothing like the Monk or Druid’ repeatedly, when in truth, it was a fusion of Druid, Monk, and some Witch Doctor elements.”

“Some players strongly preferred the Paladin class over the Spiritborn and weren’t eager to include it. One player commented, ‘It seems like a mix of Monk and Druid. I’m still holding out hope for Paladin.'”

Despite the shared characteristics, certain novel skills and talents exhibit a distinct creative flair. Take, for instance, the combination of spellcasting and summoning familiars in Diablo 4, which previously presented a greater challenge. It’s important to note that fans have only viewed the gameplay trailer at this point, so their perspectives could shift once the expansion is unveiled.
