During the February 5 Nintendo Direct presentation, Bandai Namco announced that Digimon Story: Time Stranger is coming to Nintendo Switch this summer. They also confirmed the game will be available on the new Nintendo Switch 2, and players will be able to choose between two different graphics settings.
Players on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 will be able to experience Digimon Story: Time Stranger almost a year after its original release on PC and other consoles. Praised as the highest-rated Digimon game ever made, Time Stranger is a time-traveling adventure where you’re sent eight years into the past to uncover a mysterious disaster. Throughout the game, you’ll battle and befriend many popular Digimon, including classics like Agumon and Gabumon. Additional content is available after launch through downloadable content, either purchased separately or as part of a season pass.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger Arrives on Nintendo Consoles July 10
The recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase highlighted games from other companies, and Bandai Namco announced that the popular game Digimon Story: Time Stranger is coming to Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2 on July 10th. Both physical and digital copies will be available. The Switch 2 version will offer players a choice between two graphics settings: Quality Mode and Performance Mode. Quality Mode will display the game in 4K resolution with HDR support when played on a TV (at 30 frames per second), and HDR will also be available when playing in handheld mode. Performance Mode will prioritize a smoother experience, running the game at 60 frames per second at a 1080p resolution.
The Nintendo Switch version of Digimon Story: Time Stranger doesn’t include Performance and Quality modes, and you can’t transfer save data between different versions of the game. However, if you play the Switch version on a Switch 2 console, you’ll be able to download a free update to unlock these modes. You can now view the game and all its downloadable content, like the Alternate Dimension and Gaku-Ran episodes, on the Nintendo eShop before its July 10th release. Make sure you have between 12 and 16 gigabytes of free space on your console to install the game, depending on which version you choose.
You can now pre-order Digimon Story: Time Stranger on the Nintendo eShop. The standard edition costs $59.99, and the ultimate edition is $109.99. Note that the game is listed twice – once for the original Switch and again for the new Switch 2. After the recent game showcase, Bandai Namco announced that the quality and performance mode options planned for the Switch 2 version will also be added to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game through a free update released later on.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger Joins a Growing Switch 2 Game List
During the February 5 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase – a roughly 30-minute presentation – several games coming to Nintendo consoles were revealed. This included the announcement of Digimon Story: Time Stranger, as well as confirmation that RPGs like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Granblue Fantasy: Relink will be available on the Switch 2 in 2026. The showcase concluded with Bethesda announcing Switch 2 versions of Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
With a strong lineup of games planned for 2026, Nintendo’s Switch continues to thrive. While Digimon Story: Time Stranger launched in October 2025, its arrival on both the Switch and the new Switch 2 on July 10th will be a key test of how fans react to the game on Nintendo’s platforms.
