The developer of Digimon Story: Time Stranger has cautioned that physical copies might be difficult to find when the game first releases. With the next major installment in the series arriving about 10 years after Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, fans eager to purchase a physical disc version might experience delays. The initial supply of Digimon Story: Time Stranger physical copies is expected to sell out rapidly.
Although ten years have passed since Cyber Sleuth and the newest Digimon Story game, fans didn’t have to wait too long after the official announcement. Bandai Namco unveiled the title during the February 2025 PlayStation State of Play, and Digimon Story: Time Stranger will launch on October 3rd. Players with certain versions of the game, depending on their time zone, may even be able to start playing a day early. As the release date approaches, excitement is building, and Bandai anticipates this will affect how many physical copies are available.
High Demand Could Make Physical Editions of Digimon Story: Time Stranger Hard to Come By
On September 30th, the official Japanese Digimon Story: Time Stranger account announced that the physical version of the game might be hard to find when it first releases, due to a lot of people wanting it. They encouraged fans to pre-order a copy from their favorite store if they could, to make sure they don’t miss out. It’s not surprising Bandai thinks the game will sell quickly, considering the Digimon Story: Time Stranger Collector’s Edition sold out fast, even though it cost $200. While the standard physical version won’t have as many extras, it looks like fans are eager to buy it anyway.

It’s become common for games to be released with digital copies or download codes instead of physical discs. So, it’s great news for fans that Time Stranger is actually getting a proper physical release at launch, despite a few drawbacks with the console version. It’s been announced that Digimon Story: Time Stranger will only run at 30 FPS on all consoles, including the PS5 Pro, while the Steam version will run at 60 FPS. Aside from this limitation, there’s a lot to be excited about for fans, although this could make getting a physical copy tricky until Bandai produces more units.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger isn’t the only game to have physical copies disappear from stores quickly, leaving fans unable to buy them. Earlier this year, physical copies of Clair Obscur sold out rapidly and then appeared on eBay for very high prices. It’s uncertain if Digimon Story will experience the same issue, but Bandai has at least given fans advance notice.
