Summary
- Stig Asmussen, director of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, founded Giant Skull to develop a D&D game.
- Giant Skull’s D&D game will use Unreal Engine 5, have rich storytelling, combat, and traversal.
- The new D&D game by Giant Skull is highly anticipated, following Asmussen’s success with Fallen Order.
Regardless of whether you’re a die-hard fan of Star Wars Jedi series or God of War 3, it’s difficult to dispute that these games were exceptionally well done. Given that the creator of those games has now established their own studio, it’s only natural that we’d be curious about what new game they might be developing.
Although not as famous as Hideo Kojima or Shigeru Miyamoto, Stig Asmussen has created some well-known games, with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order being the latest one for Respawn Entertainment. In 2023, Asmussen left the EA-owned company to launch his own top-tier studio, Giant Skull.
Seasoned Game Director Now Working On Dungeons & Dragons License

It’s interesting to note that the director of God of War Ragnarok seems to be sticking close to his area of expertise. Wizards of the Coast, who own the intellectual property for Dungeons & Dragons, have revealed they are collaborating with Giant Skull for a new, single-player action-adventure game set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons.
The as-yet-unnamed game employs Unreal Engine 5 and is expected to debut on both consoles and personal computers. At present, we only have this information available. It’s not surprising that Giant Skull hasn’t disclosed details about this project just yet, but they did share a statement regarding the project.
According to Asmussen’s statement about the new project (reported by Eurogamer), he explained that the skilled and seasoned team at Giant Skull thrives on creativity and inquisitiveness. Their aim is to construct a captivating new Dungeons & Dragons world, complete with compelling narratives, thrilling battles, and exhilarating exploration, which players will eagerly immerse themselves in.
Stepping into the world of Dungeons & Dragons lore, I can’t help but feel a sense of history with Chris Asmussen’s upcoming game. His previous projects, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel, Jedi: Survivor, were not just successful commercially, but also critically acclaimed.
2023 saw the launch of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a much-praised follow-up. In our assessment, we highlighted some technical snags it initially faced, but despite these flaws, the final verdict was clear: “Despite occasional frame rate drops, blurry textures at times, and an inconsistent pace, this game stands out as a remarkable sequel, an exceptional Star Wars title, and simply an outstanding game overall.
Once we know more about Asmussen’s D&D project, we’ll let our readers know.
