Discord users should be cautious and check their accounts because of a recent security issue. On October 3rd, Discord reported that a third-party company they work with – a customer service provider – experienced a data breach, potentially affecting some users. However, Discord says they are working to fix the problem and protect user data.
The Discord platform has changed a lot since it began, growing from a tool mainly used by gamers to communicate, into a widely used social chat service. Recently, in June, harmful links circulated on Discord, attempting to steal user information and install malware on people’s computers. This highlights the importance of online safety.
Discord Data Leaked in Customer Service Breach
A company that helps Discord with customer support was recently attacked, potentially exposing information collected by the Customer Support and/or Trust & Safety teams. The compromised data includes things like real names, Discord usernames, email addresses, and other contact details users may have shared with support. Attackers also gained access to some billing information, such as the type of payment used, the last four digits of credit card numbers, and a record of account purchases.

All Data Involved in Customer Service Breach
- Name, Discord username, email and other contact details if provided to Discord customer support
- Limited billing information such as payment type, the last four digits of your credit card, and purchase history if associated with your account
- IP addresses
- Messages with our customer service agents
- Limited corporate data (training materials, internal presentations)
Following the security incident, Discord has blocked the third-party company providing customer support from accessing its ticket system and has started an internal review. Discord is encouraging users to be cautious of any potentially suspicious messages or communications related to the Discord platform. Anyone affected by the breach will receive an email from noreply@discord.com. Earlier in April, Discord introduced a feature to verify users’ ages in the UK and Australia to help protect younger users. Individuals who submitted government identification for this verification will receive a specific notification within the email from Discord.

Discord has been updating its platform significantly in 2025, with one particularly debated change being a new look for the desktop app. They’ve also worked on boosting user security, for example, with the Ignore feature, which gives people more control over their conversations beyond simply blocking others. The introduction of age verification wasn’t popular with many users, and now, following a data breach, Discord might need to rethink its approach to age verification to better protect its community.
