In the game Red Dead Redemption 2, a total of 7 homesteads can be robbed, and each one serves to underscore Arthur Morgan’s outlaw status and his unwavering loyalty towards the Van der Linde gang. Robbing these homesteads is not an easy task, as it involves taking from people who are protecting their homes. However, for Arthur Morgan, the law and moral considerations have never been much of a hindrance.
To maximize enjoyment while playing “Red Dead Redemption 2”, it’s highly advantageous for players to become familiar with the exact locations of the seven homesteads within the game, as well as understanding what awaits them upon arrival at these sites, all while guiding their faithful steed.
Players only need to rob 4 Homesteads for the Breaking and Entering achievement.
7. Chez Porter
Rob a Hostile Family, Secluded with Their Own Dialect
- Location: Found south of Window Rock, Ambarino
At Chapter 2, Chez Porter becomes the initial settlement players can burglarize. Here, Arthur is invited by Javier Escuella for a ride and a heist if he stays with Javier’s camp. The homestead houses a hidden treasure trove of jewels, which the Van der Linde gang divides among themselves upon successful robbery. All that was required was for Arthur and Javier to confront the Porter family, defend against them, and deal with their peculiar dialect.
This homestead could easily go unattended if you don’t accomplish it with Javier. Skipping it might lead to the place being deserted after Chapter 2. Therefore, remember to finish this task before departing south with the Van der Linde gang. Do note that the Porters are not fond of visitors in the slightest.
6. Lonnie’s Shack
Wannabe Bandits are Hold Up in this Abandoned Shack
- Location: Found to the northeast building of Pleasance in Lemoyne
Lonnie’s Shack and Aberdeen Pig Farm are situated relatively near each other, but in Chapter 3, Lonnie’s Shack becomes a vulnerable home that’s part of Sean MacGuire’s intricate strategy. Characters can explore this region, but only at that point in the story. Upon arrival, the objective is to eliminate all bandits, except for one, who must be kept alive for the purpose of intimidation and forcing him to disclose the location of a secret cache hidden within the building itself.
Performing this action uncovers a delightful stash of treasure for the Van der Linde gang, and while this task might be overlooked during Chapter 3, players have the opportunity to return later in the game where they’ll encounter a fresh group of outlaws. Arthur can eliminate these outlaws, except for one, thus exposing another secret loot spot and obtaining a free Double-Action Revolver as a bonus.
5. Aberdeen Pig Farm
A Twisted and Incestuous Pig Farm With Lots of Loot
- Location: North of Pleasance in Lemoyne
At the Aberdeen Pig Farm, Arthur will be warmly welcomed by an obese man in work clothes who invites him inside for a meal and drink with himself and his wife. Yet, gamers have the option to stealthily burglar this residence without the Aberdeens noticing. They can do so by going to the western side of the building and looting the box filled with valuables hidden within the adjacent room.
Should Arthur choose to linger at the Pig Farm, he may discern that this seemingly friendly brother-sister duo has ulterior motives. In truth, they aim to contaminate Arthur and plunder him. Therefore, it’s wise for Arthur to re-encounter the couple, retrieve his money concealed behind their mother’s portrait, and proceed upstairs to pilfer more valuables hidden in the floorboards.
4. Van Horn Mansion
A Run-Down Manor with Two Drunkards Protecting a Stash of Money
- Location: Found by the shore to the southeast area of Van Horn Trading Post, New Hanover
In recent times, I’ve found myself treading the worn-out paths of the Van Horn Mansion, a once grand abode that now stands neglected. It seems to be the current dwelling place for two fellows who, judging by their state, have been celebrating a recent windfall with spirits and coin strewn across their table.
As a cautious explorer, I’ve discovered that it’s possible to sneak into this house unnoticed. However, should I make a ruckus or attempt to pilfer the loot, these inebriated gentlemen will soon stir from their slumber and turn hostile towards old Arthur Morgan.
Eliminating these men using either a firearm or a rope seems justified if our goal is to seize the loot situated on the central table at the foot of the manor’s stairs, and this appears to be an effortless heist given minimal resistance from just two inebriated individuals.
3. Catfish Jacksons
Rob the Alcoholic and Abusive Algie Davison of Whatever He Has Left
- Location: South point of Scarlett Meadows, Lemoyne, past Braithwaite Manor
During Chapter 4, Catfish Jackson’s can be robbed as part of a mission for Strauss in Shady Belle within Money Lending and Other Sins 5. However, players have the option to rob it before or after this mission, allowing them to accumulate extra cash. This location may prompt conflicts with either Algie or his son Nate. Inside the homestead, a modest sum of money can be extorted from Nate if threatened.
Although it’s not a substantial amount, it presents a chance to scavenge and find valuable items, including some scarce cigarette cards that Nate has stored in his quarters. Since any plunder contributes towards the achievement, consider using Catfish Jack’s hideout as a testament to the kind of man Arthur Morgan truly is.
2. Watson’s Cabin
The Cabin of the Old and Threatening Mama Watson
- Location: West of Wallace Station in West Elizabeth, following the path from Little Creek River
If players wander off in West Elizabeth, they might accidentally discover a modest homestead with a donkey stationed outside. This house can be entered, and Mama Watson may be found sitting in her chair engrossed in a book, not particularly pleased by the unexpected visitor in her home. Yet, Mama Watson’s vision isn’t as sharp as it once was, and she believes Arthur has been dispatched to replenish the money hidden in the cellar.
If Arthur ventures into the cellar, he has the opportunity to burglarize this residence, which is packed with money, valuables, and a Semi-Automatic Shotgun. Burgling items advances the achievement, and players can revisit this location not once but twice more to advance Mama Watson and the Watson Boys’ storyline. However, remember to carry a firearm for the upcoming confrontation.
1. Willard’s Rest
Money is Gifted to Arthur After Helping the Widow Here Learn to Hunt
- Location: Furtherst north east location in Roanoke Ridge, New Hanover (accessible after The Widow of Willard’s Rest in Chapter 6)
In simpler terms, Willard’s Rest is considered a place that can be accessed, not a location to be physically stolen from. Players can only enter this place in Chapter 6, where they encounter Charlotte, a widow. If Arthur chooses to aid Charlotte in hunting a rabbit and then later assist her in shooting a gun, he can subsequently enter her house and stay overnight in an extra room.
Upon awakening, players discover a letter from Charlotte containing a treasure chest she’s bestowed upon them. Opening the chest and retrieving the money inside earns players a completed checklist entry for the required homesteads, despite it being a gift rather than a theft.
