Discover Minecraft’s New Biome-Specific Animal Variants: Warm and Cold Chickens, Pigs, and Cows!

Summary

  • New Minecraft update adds biome-specific variants to classic farm animals for a refreshed look.
  • Warm and cold designs for chickens, pigs, and cows are inspired by real-life breeds.
  • Warm cow and cold cow variants are standout additions to the game’s peaceful mob selection.

With the recent updates hinting at a fresh mob and biome theme, Minecraft has given a refresh to some of its longstanding peaceful mobs by introducing temperature-dependent variants. Although these new versions of the 15-year-old farm animals function exactly like their original counterparts, their designs offer easy comparisons due to biome-based differences.

Drawing inspiration from actual livestock species like cows, pigs, and chickens, the latest designs for these creatures offer a fresh take without altering their mechanical workings. These updates contribute to alleviating the game’s current lack of ambiance, alongside the introduction of cactus flowers and the much-anticipated firefly bushes. The new farm animals seamlessly fit into this revamped environment.

6. Warm Chicken

Simple But Effective

It could be said that among all mobs, the one that stands out as rather unimpressive, especially when compared to its opposite counterpart’s success, is indeed the “warm chicken.” Despite lacking the flair of elaborate feather patterns or distinctive wing structures, this chicken presents a warmer tone, appearing more orange than its standard chicken counterpart.

Despite the stripes lending a stylish edge to this bird’s appearance, the overall design appears rather plain in comparison to the daring new variants that exist. A more noticeable expansion of tail feathers could introduce an element of mystery and charm to this otherwise straightforward change.

5. Cold Chicken

New Hairdo

At the other extreme of the chicken variety, the “cold chicken” stands out distinctly compared to the common, hot poultry. With its untamed, feathery hairstyle, the cold chicken certainly embraces its unique role as a fresh take on the conventional chicken.

Drawing inspiration from a specific Polish chicken breed, the appearance appears somewhat peculiar, aiming for a fluffier bunch-like appearance instead of the current stringy “mullet” resemblance. Despite this, the tail feathers offer a slightly tamed aspect to the overall look.

4. Cold Pig

Curly And Wooly

Although the design has an adorable appearance, the frozen pig might not perfectly represent the actual look and feel of a pig, despite having all the traditional features well-incorporated. The curled, furry texture is a nice touch, although it doesn’t serve the practical purpose of a sheep’s coat. Compared to other subsequent enhancements, it isn’t as captivating.

In the frosty areas within Minecraft, where you’ve got blocks in shades of gray and white (from stones to snow), the slightly yellowish hue of the cold pig seems to fit well with its surroundings. However, unlike other mobs, it doesn’t immediately stand out or grab the player’s attention.

3. Warm Pig

Tropical Tan

Describing a version of a pig that gives an immediate sense of residing in tropical or warm climates. This warm-hued pig, while still reminiscent of the common bubblegum pink pig, effectively conveys the appearance of pigs native to warmer regions, all without introducing any unusual features.

Because these pigs tend to appear in environments like jungles and savannas, their vivid orange hue creates a striking contrast against the usual deep green or dry grass tones found around them. Moreover, the rough-textured brown on their feet hints at mud, making the design even more distinct, given that pigs currently don’t interact much with mud blocks in Minecraft.

2. Warm Cow

Raging Bull

Among all farm animals, the cows stand out with significant changes in their overall appearance. Not just their hide color, but their entire model has been subtly updated. Given this facelift, it’s not surprising that the “warm cow” is so popular here.

Appearing reminiscent of bulls and longhorns, the cow with its warm demeanor effortlessly blends into the cowboy-esque ambiance of landscapes such as badlands. At the same time, it maintains a touch of tropical charm that makes it suitable for jungles. The design, though seemingly predictable for cow variants, proves exceptionally effective when applied judiciously.

1. Cold Cow

Fuzzy Cattle

As a Minecraft enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at the chilly charm of the “cold cow” variant – one of the most captivating additions to farm animal mobs in the game so far. The designer masterfully captured the essence of highland cattle and transformed it into a blocky art form that’s both unique and authentic.

The fuzzy, fur-like texture that spills over its body gives this variant depth, making it stand out among other farm animals. But what truly seals the deal is the strategic placement of those majestic horns, adding an air of regality to this already impressive design. In my opinion, the “cold cow” variant is a clear winner!

Regardless of whether the shaggy fur of the winter cow serves no practical purpose in the herd, its appearance immediately conveys that it hails from cold climates. In contrast, other cattle do not communicate this origin quite as effectively.
