In the series known as “Sakamoto Days”, Shin Asakura was once a pupil of Taro Sakamoto. Subsequently, Asakura assumed the role of an ex-assassin, much like Sakamoto. Despite this change, both characters find themselves drawn back into their old professions occasionally. However, Asakura possesses unique talents that Sakamoto does not, such as clairvoyance. Despite being the only child among them, Shin managed to forge friendships with these seasoned professionals. One ordinary day, as Asakura was engrossed in research on superhuman abilities at the lab, a young and groggy Shin walked in, seeking water. Instead of quenching his thirst, Shin inadvertently picked up the completed serum that Asakura had been working on and consumed it.

After consuming the serum, Asakura went to check on Shin and found that he only reacted by vomiting. Not long after feeling unwell, Asakura thought Shin was okay because he displayed no other symptoms. However, Asakura had privately considered Shin to be fine without voicing his thoughts aloud. Later, Shin stated that he wasn’t well, causing Asakura to realize that he may have unconsciously heard what he said mentally, suggesting he now possessed telepathic abilities.

Despite Shin appearing to revel in his newfound ability of reading minds, Asakura found himself displeased by the situation. He felt a sense of regret and even endeavored to concoct a drug aimed at reversing Shin’s symptoms, given that other researchers had grown distant from him. However, Shin declined to consume the drug, and Asakura admitted to himself that he regretted drawing Shin into his research. In time, the young boy left home and started working with Taro Sakamoto as an assassin.

Taro Sakamoto and Shin developed a strong connection, with Taro adopting Shin as his pupil and them growing closer than typical mentor and protégé might. Shin idolized Taro Sakamoto and aspired to be like him, aiming to emulate him in the future. Over time, Shin gained a reputation as a psychic figure in the criminal underworld, working alongside Taro for a while before the renowned assassin retired from the profession.
