Discover the Game-Changing Cynthia Decks with Togekiss and Garchomp!

As a dedicated fan, I may not always be seen as a game-changer by some, and perhaps even too specific for others in the broader meta. Yet, Cynthia has undeniably made her impact felt on the Pokémon TCG Pocket metagame, albeit temporarily, leaving an indelible mark on the game’s strategy and dynamics.

Immediately following its release, Garchomp ruled over the tournament circuits, but suddenly lost momentum a few days later. This setback reflected poorly on Cynthia, causing some to question her suitability within the TCG Pocket’s metagame.

After examining recent competitions and experimenting with various combinations, we’ve found three deck structures where Cynthia truly excels. If you aim to leverage her abilities effectively, these are the decks that should be your go-to choice. However, before delving into them, let me briefly introduce her card.

  • An Overview of Cynthia

    • Type: Supporter
    • Ability: During this turn, attacks used by your Garchomp or Togekiss do +50 damage to your opponent’s Active Pokemon.
    • Pack Point Value: 70 for the two-diamond variant, 1,250 for the tw0-star
    • Set & Pack: Space-Time Smackdown’s Palkia Packs

Among the six fresh Supporter cards launched in the Space-Time Smackdown collection, Cynthia is one of them. Her exceptional ability amplifies the attack power of two designated Pokemon by 50 points. On paper, this seems advantageous; however, because Togekiss and Garchomp are finding it challenging to secure victories, Cynthia’s relevance in the current meta has diminished as well.

As a devoted admirer, it’s important to mention that I noticed Cynthia placed fourth in our latest Space-Time Smackdown Supporter rankings. Unfortunately, her unique appeal, or the ‘niche effect,’ kept her from breaking into the top three spots.

It seems doubtful that both Garchomp and Togekiss will continue to have a significant impact on the competitive scene of the Pokemon TCG: Pocket Edition. Consequently, the popularity of Cynthia’s cards might decrease as more expansion sets arrive.

The Best-Performing Cynthia Deck

In the latest Pokemon TCG Pocket tournaments, it’s been proven that Cynthia’s most potent deck configuration teams her with Garchomp. This setup employs Druddigon for defensive purposes, while Garchomp serves as the primary source of offensive damage.

The plan is straightforward: place a tank, like Druddigon, in the Active Spot, and have one or two Garchomp ready on the bench. With Cynthia’s assistance, this setup enables consecutive 150-damage strikes.

In this revised sentence, I aimed to keep the meaning intact while using simpler words and a more conversational tone. The original sentence may seem slightly technical or formal due to its structure and terms related to Pokémon battling.

Some gamers have tried swapping Druddigon for Manaphy or Marshadow in their decks, leveraging its double Energy system. Yet, this strategy weakens the main evolution sequence’s reliability and isn’t generally advised.

The Highest-Damage Cynthia Deck

As a fan, I’d say: When it comes to maximizing Cynthia’s strength, teaming her up with Togekiss is the perfect match! Normally, Togekiss’s second attack increases by 60, making it a formidable 120-damage strike. But if you use Cynthia before that attack, the damage soars to an impressive 170—all with only two Psychic Energies!

A potent approach includes positioning Togekiss in the active slot and holding two Cynthia cards. In one go, you can utilize the first Cynthia to amplify Togekiss’s initial attack, causing 110 damage. On your subsequent turn, deploy the second Cynthia to launch a 170-damage strike, sufficient to knock out even the sturdiest Pokemon.

With Cyrus in the mix, this duo becomes more lethal. If your opponent withdraws after Togekiss’s initial assault, you won’t need to expend the boosted second attack on an untouched Pokémon. Instead, deploy Cyrus to resurrect their damaged Pokémon and deliver the finishing blow.

The primary challenge with this configuration is that Togekiss is a Stage Two Pokemon, making it tough to consistently have two Togekiss cards in play. This could pose an issue when facing swift decks. Yet, you can alleviate the difficulty by skillfully utilizing Druddigon’s compatibility with Togekiss, which allows for stalling opponents while you position your primary attackers for optimal damage output.

The Best Cynthia Deck for Stalling

If you’re open to trying an entertaining yet risky combo featuring Cynthia, the Togekiss-Mismagius configuration might be worth a try. This duo became well-known when Misdreavus Promo-A was introduced, with its Confusion Ability contributing to its appeal. Although it’s not a top-tier competitive choice, it’s still notable as a fun meme or trolling setup.

The objective of this deck is to place Promo-A Misdreavus into the active position quickly. Its ability to cause confusion slows down the opponent, giving you additional time to establish Togekiss on the bench. After evolution, Mismagius X can strengthen the confusion effect, providing even more time to develop another Togekiss.

One significant benefit of this version is that it boasts two damage dealers. Mismagius X can inflict 80 points of damage, weakening adversaries for Togekiss to conclude the battle. Yet, the drawback lies in the deck’s vulnerable evolution paths and energy card allocation strategy. Coordinating the evolution of both attackers and ensuring they have enough energy before the opponent puts pressure on can be quite challenging.

Cynthia’s Performance in Pocket’s Metagame

Because Cynthia is commonly found in Togekiss or Garchomp-based decks, the success of these Pokemon in the meta game suggests how well Cynthia is performing. At present, these two Pokemon together account for approximately 2% of the overall metagame, with an average victory rate of 41.4%. However, it’s notable that these decks containing them have been played less than 2,000 times in recent tournaments, which suggests a decrease in their popularity.

As a devoted fan, I’ve found that in terms of strength, Garchomp has been the preferred choice among us, boasting a higher meta share (1.22%) and a slightly superior win rate of 42.25%. Yet, neither of these pairings have been able to outshine the top-tier decks within the current metagame.

Cynthia’s decks using Togekiss have a tough time against Darkrai ex and Exeggutor ex, which are currently the top-performing strategies in play. Her Garchomp setups aren’t doing much better. If Cynthia doesn’t find stronger team combinations in upcoming releases, her impact is unlikely to increase significantly—particularly because Togekiss and Garchomp, the Pokemon tied to her effect, don’t seem to have long-term potential.
