During the April 2nd Nintendo Direct event primarily focused on the upcoming Switch 2 console, several exciting details about upcoming games were unveiled. However, it’s understandable that some minor aspects might have been overlooked. While we got a sneak peek at the enhanced versions of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, there was one intriguing detail about these updated titles that didn’t surface during the Direct but was later disclosed in a game-specific trailer. More precisely, the Switch 2 adaptations will offer players the unique opportunity to listen to Voice Memories never heard before, providing additional insights into Princess Zelda’s struggle against the Calamity in Breath of the Wild and King Rauru’s life in Tears of the Kingdom, among other things.

Voice Memories Are Tied To The New Zelda Notes Feature

In the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 editions of “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” and “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”, you’ll gain access to an exclusive feature called Zelda Notes. This feature can be accessed through the official Nintendo Switch app, which needs to be downloaded onto a smartphone or another compatible device. The app offers several useful features such as guidance for locating Shrines, Koroks, and hidden items, daily rewards that can be collected, and a function to share “Tears of the Kingdom” items and Autobuilds with fellow players.

In the Zelda Notes section, you’ll find Voice Memos. Similar to the Memories found in both games, these Voice Memos accessed through Zelda Notes offer more insights into what other characters were doing before the game events. Unlike regular Memories, Voice Memos are purely audio, serving as an audio diary spoken by the character themselves. You can discover their locations using the navigation system within Zelda Notes, which offers vocal guidance and alerts you when your destination is close at hand.

These Memories Will Greatly Expand The Lore Of The Two Games

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “In the world of Breath of the Wild, I, Princess Zelda, will share my voice memories. These insights delve into our lives before the Catastrophe and revisit moments from Link’s slumber that he can’t recall. The trailers hint at reminiscences about my fondness for the Silent Princess flower and a time when Link demonstrated leadership at the Dueling Peaks.

In contrast, the Voice Memories found in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will not only feature tales from Zelda, but also those of King Rauru, an ancient ruler of Hyrule, and Master Kohga, the leader of the Yiga Clan. It was believed that Master Kohga perished at the end of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but in Tears of the Kingdom, it’s revealed that he survived by falling into the Depths. As players delve into Hyrule’s underworld, they will encounter him multiple times. His Voice Memories might shed light on how he managed to survive and provide insights into his experiences during the time period between the two games.

The new feature called Voice Memories within the Zelda Notes service is specifically designed to entice players who have already experienced either game to resume or start anew their saved games.
