Invincible embodies this same optimistic spirit, coupled with his “friendly neighborhood” demeanor and commitment to not taking lives. As he becomes increasingly involved in the Coalition of Planets’ conflict against the Viltrumites, his narrative and characteristics grow more reminiscent of Superman.

In the storyline, the character Invincible transforms into one of the strongest superheroes, possessing abilities akin to Superman’s, including incredible strength and flight. While all Viltrumites share these powers, it is Invincible who stands out as the heroic figure, making him unique. Robert Kirkman has thoughtfully combined the admirable qualities of Superman and Spider-Man in creating Invincible, ensuring he is neither just another virtuous character nor dull and predictable.

A unique twist, however, is that Rae can never grow beyond her natural size, which somewhat limits her versatility, giving the impression of a one-dimensional character.

Yet, her Monster form is equally intimidating and potent. In truth, she’s an adult woman under a curse that bestows upon her the power to metamorphose into a powerful green monster. However, each transformation results in her becoming younger.

It’s possible that War Woman doesn’t have a significant part in the series because she was killed by Omni-Man early on. Nevertheless, it’s evident that many characters from the Guardians of the Globe share similarities with DC’s Justice League members. War Woman embodies this connection perfectly.

Her backstory shares striking resemblances with that of Wonder Woman’s. Much like Wonder Woman, she hails from Amazonian warrior culture and has ventured into human civilization. She possesses superhuman strength, the ability to fly, and remarkable speed. Unlike Wonder Woman, however, she predominantly employs a mace as her weapon, and relies more on her flight abilities in combat. This character bears a strong resemblance to Hawk Girl, another notable figure from the Justice League series.

4. Red Rush: The Flash

The Speedster With a Heart Takes After DC’s Popular Superhero

Among the beloved superheroes in pop culture, The Flash stands out as one of the fan favorites due to his incredible speed. People can’t seem to get enough of these swift heroes, and The Flash is undoubtedly the cream of the crop. However, in the Invincible series, speedsters are notably absent. Although Red Rush does make an appearance, it’s just a brief cameo at the start.

Originally, he was presented as part of a team similar to the Justice League, known as the Guardians of the Globe. This team includes War Woman, Immortal, Green Ghost, and Martian Man, who can be considered the equivalent of DC Comics’ Invincible Universe. His abilities are reminiscent of The Flash’s, but with a much more limited capacity for use.

A character who is part of the original team in the Guardians of the Globe series, known as Green Ghost, acquires her abilities from a green crystal. As a die-hard movie fan, I’d rephrase it like this: In contrast to Kitty Pryde, Green Ghost possesses the unique power of flight, which significantly enhances her phasing abilities. However, it seems she didn’t fully leverage these powers in the series, leaving many fans wishing for more from her character. Yet, her minor role and brief appearance are not detrimental because she’s a newcomer to the original Guardians of the Globe, unlike characters based on DC Comics heroes.

It’s strange that the concept of a superhero with water-related abilities often involves a king from Atlantis, ruling an underwater kingdom. In the DC Universe, there’s Aquaman; in the Marvel Universe, there’s Namor; and in the world of Invincible, there was, or rather is, Aquarus.

In the early issues of the Guardians of the Globe comic series, there’s a character named Aquarus who emerges as the leader of an underwater realm. Unlike Aquaman and Namor, Aquarus has a distinctive fish-like appearance with a humanoid body structure, reflecting the characteristics of his people.

One of the Most Obvious DC Inspirations

In essence, Batman stands out as one of the most recognized superheroes globally. Consequently, a show like “Invincible” would naturally incorporate an interpretation of this iconic figure. They accomplish this through the character of Darkwing, who assumes two distinct roles within the series.

In contrast to the original Guardians of the Globe member who goes by Darkwing, his successor was initially his assistant. While the first Darkwing appears to lack superpowers and instead relies on a diverse collection of gadgets and weapons much like Batman, the second one seems to possess abilities when residing in the Shadow Realm. This allows him to transport others alongside him, potentially gaining an edge in combat situations.
