Summary
- Dishonored 2 unexpectedly received a small update for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
- The patch is quite small and appears to include bug fixes and language updates.
- Arkane Lyon is currently working on Marvel’s Blade.
Unexpectedly, one of the critically acclaimed Bethesda games from the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 era, Dishonored 2, has received an update, although it’s not the kind of update many fans were eagerly anticipating. Released towards the end of 2016, this game serves as a sequel to its popular 2012 predecessor and introduces Emily Kaldwin as a playable character. Gaming enthusiasts have appreciated missions such as The Clockwork Mansion and A Crack in the Slab for their innovative gameplay elements and detailed settings.
Although Arkane Lyon gained recognition through the development of games like Dishonored 2 in 2016 and Deathloop in 2021, its sister studio, Arkane Austin, faced closure in 2024 as part of Microsoft’s studio shutdowns that also affected teams such as Roundhouse Studios, Alpha Dog Games, and Tango Gameworks. Notably, Tango was later revived by Korean publisher Krafton. Arkane Austin had previously developed the original Dishonored game, Prey (released in 2017), and Redfall (released in 2023), which received negative reviews. Fortunately, Arkane Lyon continues to thrive and is currently collaborating with Marvel Games on Marvel’s Blade.
Suddenly, enthusiasts of the game “Dishonored 2” spotted that an update had been quietly released for the game on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam. This seems to be a minor bug-fixing patch, although SteamDB indicates it updates the game’s language resources. The new update for “Dishonored 2” is only 230MB in size, but on Xbox, it necessitates a complete overhaul of the 40GB game.
Dishonored 2 Receives a Surprise New Update, but Not a 60 FPS Mode
Although it hasn’t been explicitly stated why, this recent Dishonored 2 update doesn’t appear to be the performance improvement that fans have been anticipating. Interestingly, most other Arkane games run smoothly at 60 frames per second (FPS) on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, but for some reason, Dishonored 2 remains fixed at 30 FPS. Even older titles like the original Dishonored and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider can manage to run at 60 FPS due to updates on Xbox and PlayStation platforms. It’s possible that Arkane Lyon may be planning an FPS update for the game’s tenth anniversary in 2026, but a simple 60 FPS patch might not be worth the wait for fans.
For quite some time now, fans of Arkane Studios have eagerly anticipated a third major installment in the Dishonored series. However, if such a game is indeed planned, it might be many years before we see it. This anticipation has grown more uncertain due to the closure of Arkane Austin, an event that will undoubtedly slow down the production of future Arkane games. At present, Arkane Lyon is developing Marvel’s Blade, a third-person action game, but as of now, no release date for this title has been announced.
