In the upcoming update for Disney Dreamlight Valley, you can expect more than just new friends to make, quests to conquer, and realms to explore – it’ll also introduce significant adjustments to how Star Paths operate. Over the past year, Disney Dreamlight Valley has been testing various modifications to the Star Path system, with the addition of Bonus Duties being one of the most notable changes. The upcoming Retro Roadtrip Star Path, a tribute to retro fashion and end-of-summer vibes, will introduce substantial alterations that could potentially redefine how players approach Star Paths.
The Next Star Path Will Remove Time Gating Entirely
In simpler terms, Star Paths function similarly to battle passes within Disney Dreamlight Valley. By accomplishing tasks called Duties, players earn Tokens that can be swapped for various rewards such as clothing, furniture, Moonstone, and Dream Style items. There’s usually a range of 70-100 Duties to complete during each Star Path. Over time, new Duties have been introduced, but some original ones from the first Star Paths in 2022 may no longer appear during the Retro Roadtrip event. The eliminated types of tasks are specified herein.
- Giving favorite Gifts to specific Villagers
- Crafting Training Manuals
- Participating in DreamSnaps competitions
- Serving meals in the Village’s restaurants, Chez Remy and Tiana’s Palace
- Hanging Out or having Daily Discussions with Villagers – except for the two new characters introduced in the update, Joy and Sadness from Pixar’s Inside Out

Significantly, the tasks that have been eliminated are those that necessitate daily logins spread over several days. To clarify, in past Star Paths, players were expected to gift five favorite items to a villager like Merlin or Mickey Mouse, but each villager could only accept three favorite gifts per day. Similarly, players may have been asked to finish three Boutique Challenges for Daisy Duck, when only one Boutique Challenge can be completed in a single real-world day.
While it’s possible to finish all Star Path tasks within a single day given current technology, it’s generally not recommended to attempt such a speedy completion due to potential drawbacks.
Bonus Duties Will Be Released On A Weekly Rotation

Players aiming to receive Extra Perks in the forthcoming Disney Dreamlight Valley Star Path can look forward to completing Regular Chores, which will be unveiled each Wednesday. A sample list of Regular Chores has been showcased on the official Disney Dreamlight Valley website, featuring tasks like shopping at Scrooge McDuck’s store. Consequently, there will still be some degree of time-limiting, but it applies solely to Bonus Rewards. It is also worth noting that these Regular Chores won’t disappear, so players can finish them all sequentially once they are fully revealed.
In a detailed blog post titled “Star Path Deep Dive” on the official Dreamlight Valley website, the Gameloft team disclosed that modifications in the Star Path feature were prompted by player suggestions. The removed tasks were due to players expressing annoyance over time-gating and newcomers encountering difficulties in completing Star Paths because they hadn’t yet unlocked specific characters or the capability to create and submit DreamSnaps.

The post highlights that players have shared concerns about certain Star Path tasks feeling monotonous or unachievable due to the need for specific characters or game elements to be available. To address this issue, they are planning to implement Regular Tasks and will eliminate lengthy, locked, and restrictive duties to ensure a more seamless progression for every player.
In simple terms, this decision to eliminate character-specific duties in Disney Dreamlight Valley, as part of an upcoming update, seems wise. With nearly fifty Villagers available (not counting those exclusive to the A Rift in Time and Storybook Vale expansions), unlocking every character will no longer be as straightforward as it was when the game first launched in Early Access. Given this complexity, it’s refreshing that Gameloft is making adjustments to adapt to the changing game dynamics. Whether these changes to Star Paths are permanent remains uncertain, but if player feedback is favorable, they could very well stick around.
