The unusual twist in the world of Disney Dreamlight Valley is that it’s broadening its usual content additions. Since the game’s early release in 2022, we’ve only seen characters from Disney Animation and Pixar Studios join the simulation game. However, it looks like this pattern might be breaking with the arrival of one of Disney’s most beloved franchises. The Wonderland Whimsy Update, rolled out on April 23, is set to introduce Star Wars-themed items in the Premium Shop over time. Although the game has incorporated content from other Disney channels and parks earlier, fans have been eagerly waiting for the Star Wars integration, given its commercial success. Not all players are thrilled about what this could mean for the game’s future direction.
In the Disney Dreamlight Valley Premium Shop, you’ll find a wealth of new Star Wars goods that surpass what was shown in Wonderland Whimsy’s reveal trailer. These additions include a fresh Jedi robes set, a lightsaber accessory complete with a posable figure, and an R2-D2 Companion. The Naboo Villa Bundle, not mentioned in the trailer, showcases additional items such as the Naboo Villa house Dreamstyle, wallpaper, and flooring. Meanwhile, the Naboo Interior Furniture Bundle offers a variety of themed decorations like a Holotable, bed, fireplace, dining table, chair, sofa, windows, and wall art – all Star Wars-themed items that don’t depict characters but hint at more Star Wars content coming to Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Star Wars Relates to the Nostalgia of the Forgetting
Star Wars could fit remarkably well within Disney Dreamlight Valley because its storyline harmonizes with the game’s internal narrative. The essence of Disney Dreamlight Valley revolves around nostalgia, as the backstory for the player character is linked to cherished childhood memories. Players work towards restoring Disney Dreamlight Valley from the clutches of The Forgetting, an occurrence that results in villagers losing their recollections. By employing magic and Dreamlight, players clear away Night Thorns and save the valley.
Eventually, it’s unveiled that The Forgotten, the mastermind behind The Forgetting, turns out to be a sinister reflection of the player themselves and was once the ruler of the Valley. The Forgotten represents the player’s inner child, who succumbs to despair and lashes out against the innocence-tainted nostalgia that children possess. As the story unfolds, the player encounters The Forgotten, who expresses regret for their actions and aids in healing the Valley from their own devastation. In the initial act of the game, The Forgotten serves as the primary antagonist, but they take a back seat in subsequent updates to the game.
Star Wars Makes Sense for DDV’s Lore More Than the MCU
In essence, The Forgotten’s history is deeply rooted in nostalgia, suggesting that the Villagers in Disney Dreamlight Valley are a means of coping with their past hardships and finding solace. It’s well-known that Star Wars resonates strongly with nostalgia for many individuals, particularly those with a strong affinity towards Disney. Given this emotional connection that Star Wars evokes, especially among a significant portion of the Disney Dreamlight Valley player base, it seems logical to introduce more Star Wars characters into the game instead of those from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) might be well-known to many, but it’s important to note that it has a younger history compared to Star Wars. Interestingly, Marvel Comics as a company predates Star Wars. However, the public is more familiar with the stories depicted in the MCU rather than the comic book series of Marvel. This suggests that Star Wars might evoke a stronger sense of nostalgia among players, which seems to align with the narrative of Disney Dreamlight Valley. It’s hoped that Disney Dreamlight Valley will include items and clothing reminiscent of the MCU, but given its nostalgic storyline, adding characters from Star Wars could make more sense at this stage.
