I fully embrace Valentine’s Day and all its romantic energy. So, when AdHoc began posting playful Valentine’s cards for the characters in Dispatch on X (formerly Twitter), I was immediately ready to dive in and obsess over their fictional interactions – it’s basically my favorite thing to do!
Amidst all the excitement, I unexpectedly started to feel a sense of longing, noticing what was absent. It began on February 9th when AdHoc released a Valentine’s card with Robert – which was perfectly acceptable, as he’s the main character. But it didn’t evoke much of a reaction. He felt secure, but I realized that taking a risk, stepping slightly outside of that comfort zone, could have been interesting. I then understood that what I was missing wasn’t a thing, but a person.
Dispatch’s Valentine’s Day Cards Made Me Yearn For The One That Got Away
On February 9th, AdHoc Studio sent out an invitation after sharing Robert’s card. They let their fans vote on Discord to choose the next Valentine’s Day card, presenting them with several options.
- Invisigal
- Flambae
- Blonde Blazer
It’s clear why certain characters were highlighted. Invisigal and Blonde Blazer were both romantic interests in the first season of Dispatch, so featuring them made sense. Flambae’s appeal was also a logical choice. However, the complete lack of Malevola was a major disappointment. She wasn’t even listed as a future option – she simply wasn’t available as a romance partner.
Fit the 9 games into the grid.

Invisigal secured the bid on February 10th, and Blonde Blazer followed closely behind on the 11th. Surprisingly, Malevola, who wasn’t initially considered, appeared on the 12th. She bypassed the usual order, arriving fashionably late to an event she really should have led. Honestly, Malevola deserved to go first – ideally, she should have been given that opportunity.
I Need Everyone To Start Wanting Malevola as a Romance Option in Dispatch Season 2 As Much As I Need Her to Be
Certain characters have the power to completely transform a fandom when they’re introduced. I saw this happen a lot growing up on Tumblr, with characters like Sans and the Onceler sparking huge, dedicated communities. These characters often have a strong, even intimidating presence – they’re less about redemption and more about a captivating, intense romantic appeal. For me, Malevola perfectly embodies that kind of character.
Image via AdHoc Studio In a post-BG3‘s Karlach romance world, audiences have proven that they admire a couple of things:
- They crave in-game romances with emotionally layered, powerful women.
- These women have heat in their hearts and dialogue.
- The black horns and red skin combo is lethal.
Once you’ve seen a truly passionate and compelling love story in a video game, it’s hard to settle for anything less. Malevola doesn’t just seem like a good romance choice for the next season of Dispatch—she feels like the only logical choice.
Valentine’s Day is About Choices. Let’s Choose Chaos.
The relationship with Invisigal felt promising, like a gamble that could pay off. Blonde Blazer, on the other hand, represents perfect harmony and a very secure connection. Now, though, it’s time for a more passionate and intense romance.
The Valentine’s cards might have been a clever way for Dispatch to connect with fans who adore their characters. Things like polls and fan engagement are all part of what makes being a dedicated fan enjoyable. But it’s important to remember that fan communities aren’t just lighthearted fun – they’re driven by strong emotions and desires. The enthusiastic reaction to Malevola’s card proves that fans are eager for more. That card really resonated with people, and their responses show just how much potential there is, even in a single image.
Okay, this might be a Valentine’s Day wish! If Dispatch gets more romantic options in Season 2, please don’t hold back. Don’t shy away from fully exploring those relationships, and definitely don’t drag things out – especially after how amazing Karlach’s storyline was. Some of us need a complex, emotionally intense romance with Malevola, and only the Adhoc team can deliver that kind of story. The Valentine’s Day card was cute, but now we’re hoping for a compelling romance arc to match!
