Divinity: Original Sin 2 Gets Free Current-Gen Update

Larian Studios revealed their next Divinity game at The Game Awards 2025. To celebrate, they’re releasing a free update for owners of the previous game, Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Larian has just released the Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition upgrade for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

We don’t yet have specific technical details about the free update. However, we know the game will be optimized for the PlayStation 5 Pro. We’ll add more information about the optimizations and how they differ from the original version as soon as it’s available.

Divinity: Original Sin 2, first launched in 2017, follows up on the 2014 game, Original Sin. Although the two games share some connections, the developers at Larian state that Original Sin 2 is perfectly enjoyable on its own. They do suggest playing the first game, Divinity: Original Sin, if you want the complete experience, though!

The second game in the Original Sin series takes place in a world where the gods have died. You play as a character with dangerous, forbidden magical abilities, and because of this, you’re placed in quarantine.

According to the game’s description, the leaders of the Divine Order are trying to take away your abilities. However, the Order is hiding dangerous secrets that could put everyone at risk. They believe that without gods, the world will fall into chaos.
