The upcoming game, Divinity, will launch in early access, just like Larian Studios’ previous titles, allowing players to experience and provide feedback on the game as it’s still being developed.
Following the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios is creating a new, large-scale game set in the Divinity universe. The game will feature turn-based combat, and the developers have recently shared some details about when players can expect it to be released.
Divinity’s Early Access Format Will Help Deliver a ‘Better Game’
In a recent GamesRadar+ interview, Larian Studios boss Swen Vincke revealed plans for an early access launch of their next Divinity game. Vincke explained that they value early access because it’s become a key part of how they make games, and they appreciate feedback from players. They’ve seen how valuable community involvement was during the development of Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2, as well as Baldur’s Gate 3.
According to Larian’s boss, releasing a game in early access is a great way to significantly improve it and maintain player engagement. While it might require more work during development, the end result is a better game for everyone.
So, I was reading an interview with Vincke, and he confirmed that Divinity: Original Sin 2’s next game is still planned for an early access launch. He was talking about development timelines, and he actually said they’re aiming for three to four years, which he thinks is way better than the six years it took to finish Baldur’s Gate 3. Apparently, COVID and a bunch of other issues really slowed things down for that one.
