Battlefield REDSEC is a new game mode for Battlefield 6, similar to how Warzone arrived after Modern Warfare (2019). We’ll explain whether it’s free to play and how to access it.
Battlefield 6 initially released with both a single-player campaign and multiplayer modes, plus the unique Portal experience – a substantial amount of content overall. But EA and Battlefield Studios had been hinting at more to come, and on October 28th, they delivered with the launch of Battlefield 6’s REDSEC update.
The game included the battle royale mode (but didn’t let you play alone) and the recently added Gauntlet playlist. It makes you wonder if you’ll even need to buy Battlefield 6 to enjoy it.
Can You Play REDSEC Without Owning Battlefield 6?
You can play Battlefield: REDSEC without buying Battlefield 6; it’s a free, standalone experience.
Similar to games like Call of Duty and Warzone, REDSEC is a standalone experience and isn’t part of the main Battlefield 6 game. You can play Battlefield 6 without needing to purchase REDSEC, and vice versa.
Battlefield’s Battle Royale modes and Gauntlet Mode are completely free to play. Plus, the team at REDSEC plans to keep adding exciting new features and game modes in the future. It’s a fantastic time to be a Battlefield player!
How To Play Battlefield REDSEC
To start playing Battlefield REDSEC, simply download it from your preferred app store, let it install, and then you’re ready to enjoy the free-to-play Battlefield experience from EA.

- Go to the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, or Steam.
- Search for Battlefield REDSEC.
- Click on the game.
- Choose to download Battlefield REDSEC.
- Wait for the download to complete.
- Once it’s ready, you can now boot up REDSEC and play it for free!
Rumors suggested REDSEC would be free, but it seems it will only be available to those who already own Battlefield 6, so it’s not truly free. This is a good move by EA, as it should benefit both games and keep them popular for a long time.
