Summary
- Actor Percy Hynes White will not return for Season 2 due to controversy, leaving a void for Wednesday’s love interest.
- Wednesday Season 2 will focus on horror, introducing new characters to fill Xavier’s absence seamlessly.
- Wednesday’s character should evolve independently, avoiding unnecessary romances to explore horror elements.
Actor Percy Hynes White, who brought Xavier Thorpe to life in the series Wednesday, , will not be part of Season 2. His unexpected departure offers numerous opportunities for the show to explore new directions following his character’s absence. On the show, White portrayed Wednesday’s intricate love interest, shifting roles from friend, foe, and potential romantic partner.
In Season 1, Xavier’s character underwent substantial growth similar to Wednesday, and their relationship reached a heartwarming peak when he gave her a phone in the final episode, intending to maintain contact beyond Nevermore. Unfortunately, the actor was dismissed due to off-screen issues, causing fans to speculate: Will any other character fill the void left by Xavier? Could it be possible that Wednesday introduces a new psychic love interest who could rekindle the captivating chemistry they once shared?
Is Wednesday Prepared To Handle Xavier’s Absence?

After the January 2023 accusations of sexual misconduct against Hynes White (reported by Variety), Netflix swiftly distanced itself from the actor and addressed the controversy by removing him from the show. Since Xavier gifting Wednesday a phone in the season finale implied that the character had more significant roles to play, his removal came as an unexpected surprise. With Jenna Ortega confirming that Wednesday won’t be romantically involved with her peers at Nevermore, or anywhere else, it is evident that the show can manage Xavier Thorpe’s absence effectively.
On Variety’s “Actors on Actors,” Ortega shared with Elle Fanning that the new season of the show will have a stronger focus on horror.
It seems like we’re moving away from a romantic connection for Wednesday, and I find that idea quite exciting.
Ortega’s statements align with her comments in the September 2024 issue of Vanity Fair, where she stated that the arrival of new actors would smoothly handle Xavier’s departure, describing it as a “strange shift.” She added, “With so many new characters being introduced, I think things might get a bit confused.” Ortega’s comment, “Wednesday’s world does feel slightly off-kilter,” encapsulates the transient nature of Nevermore, where change is a constant each season, making Thorpe’s absence seem less shocking.
Should Wednesday Bring In A Replacement For Xavier‘s Character?
In my opinion as a movie enthusiast, it’s best for Wednesday’s character to steer clear of love entanglements in the storyline. She seems to be more of a lone wolf who finds strength in isolation. Last season, her love triangle with Tyler Galpin and Xavier only added confusion, as it turned out that Tyler was the Hyde, and she falsely accused Xavier of being the monster. This misunderstanding led to Xavier’s arrest, and he gave her a piece of his mind at the police station. However, everything worked out in the end – Wednesday and her companions managed to save the day, and ultimately, Xavier was cleared of any wrongdoing.
From the trajectory of Season 2, it seems ill-advised for Wednesday’s character to get entangled in another romance that doesn’t add substance. The show makes a wise choice by letting its central figure follow her own rhythm, which enables her storyline to grow independently and steers clear of typical clichés like love triangles or predictable romantic entanglements from earlier seasons.
In Season 2, it would be more advantageous for Wednesday to free herself from any connections that might hinder her progress. Additionally, avoiding any new character akin to Xavier who could muddle her thoughts is crucial, particularly since the series intends to explore horror themes deeply.
Can Another Character Recreate Xavier’s Chemistry With Wednesday?

Xavier found himself in a complex relationship with another gifted student named Bianca Barclay from Nevermore. They had been together before Xavier enrolled at school, but his affection for Wednesday grew, causing tension between Bianca and Wednesday. This situation eventually led to some foreseeable confrontations until Xavier’s actions at the Rave’N pushed Bianca away, prompting her to end things permanently with him.
As for me, Xavier and I shared a unique connection, but it ultimately reached its end. With season 2, a fresh chapter unfolds in my life. Although finding another actor to rekindle that chemistry seems improbable, it’s no longer the focal point of the show for me. Instead, what truly ignites my excitement is the opportunity to pursue my aspirations independently, delve deeper into my writing, unravel mysteries at Nevermore, and forge connections with my parents while testing my limits.
New Cast Additions To Wednesday Season 2
As a passionate fan of the spooktacular world of Wednesday, I can hardly contain my excitement as Season 2 prepares to unveil an array of talented actors to its already captivating cast. The enigmatic Steve Buscemi will grace our screens as Principal Barry Dort, while the multi-talented Lady Gaga is rumored to make a mesmerizing cameo appearance.
The Addams Family’s Christopher Lloyd, who once brought Uncle Fester to life in the 1992 movie and its sequel, is set to reprise his role in a mysterious capacity within Wednesday’s spellbinding narrative. Meanwhile, Fred Armisen continues his chilling portrayal of Fester throughout the series.
Thandiwe Newton will step into the shoes of Dr. Fairburn, Joanna Lumley will breathe life into the enigmatic character of Grandmama, and Billie Piper has been cast as Capri. Furthermore, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamo are all poised to enrich the macabre tapestry of Wednesday with their captivating performances.
Get ready to be enthralled as these exceptional actors weave their magic within the hauntingly charming universe of Wednesday!
The second season of Wednesday is slated to premiere on Netflix in 2025.
