Fans of the God of War series were thrilled to learn about a new 2D prequel that tells the story of a younger Kratos – and even more surprised that it was released on PS5 immediately after the announcement! God of War: Sons of Sparta was a clear standout moment of the event, and it wasn’t the only God of War news shared either.

As a huge God of War fan, I’m so excited to hear that a remake of the original trilogy is actually happening! We’ve been hearing rumors for ages, and it’s awesome to finally get confirmation. I’m really curious to see how the developers will approach rebuilding Kratos’ first adventures. But here’s the thing that’s a little weird: Sony says it’s very early in development. That’s surprising after all this time! While I’m totally thrilled about God of War: Sons of Sparta suddenly appearing, it does make you wonder why they’re just now starting work on the trilogy remake.

Because game development is getting more complex, many expected the next installment to take longer, especially since it will probably require a completely new world and updated technology. While anything is possible, the long wait for the trilogy remake is making me concerned that the next God of War game will take even longer to arrive than anticipated. I’m hoping that isn’t true, but the remake news has me bracing for a potentially very long wait.

Amazon’s upcoming live-action series based on God of War is both exciting and a little worrying. Adapting video games into live-action shows is always challenging. Some argue it’s not even needed for games with strong storylines like God of War and The Last of Us. While Fallout demonstrated that a live-action adaptation can be successful, that series benefited from the game’s focus on world-building and lore rather than a rigid plot, making it easier to create a new, engaging story.

The live-action adaptation of God of War will feature Ryan Hurst, Callum Vinson, Alastair Duncan, Mandy Patinkin, Olafur Darri Olafsson, Danny Woodburn, Jeff Gulka, Max Parker, and Teresa Palmer in its cast.

As a huge fan of Santa Monica Studio, I’m really excited to hear they’re working on a brand new game after the amazing God of War series! It sounds like they’ve got a lot on their plate right now, which is awesome, but I also hope they aren’t overextending themselves. They’ve consistently delivered incredible games, so I trust they know how to manage everything. Until then, I’ll be replaying God of War: Sons of Sparta and eagerly waiting to see what Sony and Santa Monica Studio reveal next – I can’t wait!
