In Chapter 5 of Red Dead Redemption 2, there aren’t many items that players might accidentally overlook, unlike other chapters. However, the Guarma part of the game does contain a few items that gamers wouldn’t want to miss. Before venturing into this tropical island in search of an escape, it’s beneficial to know what these missable contents are within the Guarma chapter of Red Dead Redemption 2.
In Chapter 5 of Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll discover where to find details about all the missable content, including animals, collectibles, side missions, and secret objectives that must be accomplished before a specific story mission, all conveniently listed for you below.
6. Savagery Unleashed
Help Hercule and Leon Save Local Workers
- Location: Arroyo De La Vibora
On a sun-kissed tropical island, Arthur finds himself in dire straits and longs for assistance. Enter Hercule and Leon, the ideal pair to mount a rescue operation. However, before Arthur can embark on his journey home, there’s an urgent task at hand: assisting his newly formed allies in liberating the local workers who have been taken captive and are being forced into servitude under tyranny.
During your journey in Guarma, you’ll find a mission offering a good payoff. However, it may be easy to overlook as it initially appears on the map only after starting the Guarma section. If players choose to interact with Dutch first and finish his mission before attending to this one, they could potentially miss out. To ensure completion of all missions, it’s essential that you tackle this mission with Hercule first. This particular mission is worth keeping an eye on.
5. Guarma’s Secret Random Encounters
Guarma Rebels and Arthur’s Pit Fall

Although Guarma is a compact island, it teems with life. Adventurous explorers frequently stumble upon unexpected scenarios, including skirmishes between Spanish soldiers chasing fugitive workers and Guarma rebels. If these encounters involve Arthur, they invariably turn hostile.
In the area east of Arroyo De La Vibora, there’s an unexpected surprise – a hidden ambush. On your way, you might accidentally step into a pit trap, triggering a brief cutscene. During this scene, you’ll find yourself face to face with two guards whom you’ll need to swiftly defeat. It’s a fleeting moment, but if you’re not careful, you might miss it.
4. Sun Hat
A Rare Hat Found Only in Guarma

In the Guarma Chapter 5 missions Savagery Unleashed, A Kind and Benevolent Despot, Hell Hath No Fury, and Paradise Mercifully Departed, only specific foes don the Sun Hat. The Sun Hat is seldom seen because Guarma, being an island, isn’t a place players can revisit (except through exploits not designed within the game’s intended experience).
As a fan, I’d recommend always being on the lookout for the Sun Hat, as it can be found discarded by those who are wearing it. If you spot it, kindly let Arthur grab it so we can add it to our collection of unique items. Although not everyone might choose to wear this hat, it’s a delightful memento to bring back home!
3. Guarma’s Missable Animals
A Collection of Guarma-Exclusive Animals to Study and Hunt
In the Guarma chapter, you’ll discover a variety of snakes and birds. Even though these creatures can be documented for tracking, hunting, and studying purposes within the Compendium, they do not contribute to the Zoologist trophy collection. Consequently, if players haven’t encountered these animals, they have the option to overlook them. However, for those who wish to gather every single one, their locations are detailed below:
Animal | Location |
Scarlet Macaw | North of Arroyo De La Vibora River |
Blue and Yellow Macaw | North of Arroyo De La Vibora River |
Great Green Macaw | Between the La and Vibora of Arroyo De La Vibora River |
Red-Footed Booby | Between the La and Vibora of Arroyo De La Vibora River |
Red-Tailed Boa Snake | Between the Arroyo and De of Arroyo De La Vibora River |
Rainbow Boa Snake | Between the Arroyo and De of Arroyo De La Vibora River |
Sunglow Boa Snake | Between the Arroyo and De of Arroyo De La Vibora River |
Green Turtle | Ocean of Bahia De La Paz |
As a gamer, I can’t bag the Green Turtle for a hunt, but I sure can observe and sketch it for Arthur’s journal, though no compendium entry will ever materialize from my efforts.
2. Letter from Caroline
A Secret Letter That Reveals the Gang’s New Hideout

When gamers ultimately depart Guarma and return to Lemoyne, they’ll likely aim to reach Shady Belle to discover where the Van der Linde gang has moved in the absence of their leader. Fortunately, there are hints within Shady Belle that players can follow to find and grab a Letter from Caroline.
You don’t need to gather the Letter from Caroline for the task assigned to Uncle Tacitus to be accomplished. It’s just a friendly heads-up to guide you directly to Shady Belle rather than Lakay, since players can bypass this collectible which might otherwise be challenging to notice.
1. Bounty Hunting
All Bounty Hunter Targets Must Be Completed in Chapter 5 or Before

One enjoyable feature of “Red Dead Redemption 2” is the thrill of bounty hunting. Arthur gets a good assortment of targets to choose from scattered across different towns and regions on the map. Each target has distinct conversations, worth, and encounters, allowing players who fancy administering some frontier justice to track down their quarry – whether they’re alive or deceased.
Completing the final Chapter 5 mission, Murfree Country, disables the bounty targets. Be aware that if you complete it at Beaver Hollow, you won’t have access to bounty-hunting targets until the game’s Epilogue. So, heed this warning before delving too deeply into the storyline.
This includes the Good, Honest, Snake Oil mission from Chapter 2 in Valentine.
