Enthusiasts of Xbox gaming will shortly obtain a complimentary copy of “Metro 2033 Redux”, in celebration of the horror first-person shooter series’ 15th anniversary. Originally released for various platforms in 2014, this enhanced version of the 2010 game, titled “Metro 2033 Redux“, also made its way to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles along with its re-mastered sequel, “Metro: Last Light Redux“.
According to a collection of books written by Dimitry Glukhovsky, Metro has earned its place alongside the celebrated STALKER series as one of the top horror FPS franchises. While STALKER historically focused more on PC gaming until the recent release of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl on Xbox Game Pass, Metro was initially exclusive to Xbox 360. Games like Metro 2033 and Last Light received rave reviews, with Last Light scoring an 82 on Metacritic and the Redux remaster of 2033 achieving a remarkable 90. The third game in the series, Metro Exodus from 2019, was a commercial triumph, selling over 10 million copies.
To mark the 15-year milestone of its game franchise, the Metro Twitter account declared earlier this week that the remastered version of Metro 2033, known as Metro 2033 Redux, would be available for free on platforms like Xbox, Steam, and GOG until April 16. The giveaway seemed smooth on Steam and GOG, but Xbox users encountered an issue when trying to claim the game, which stopped them from permanently adding it to their Xbox libraries. Since Metro couldn’t resolve the problem before the offer expired on April 16, they have promised that Xbox gamers will get another chance to grab Metro 2033 Redux for free in the near future.
Metro 2033 Redux Will Be Free on Xbox Soon
This second chance to receive the anniversary offer is only available for Xbox gamers. Unfortunately, those who play on Steam or GOG and missed their window during the initial offer won’t have another shot. As for why PlayStation and Switch players were excluded from Metro‘s 15-year celebration giveaway, it remains unclear. However, one possibility could be that Metro 2033, which was initially an exclusive game for the Xbox 360 console, wasn’t released on PlayStation or Switch until 2014 and 2020 respectively as 2033 Redux.
Gamers who enjoy Xbox should look out for the return of the Metro 2033 Redux offer within the next few days. To ensure they don’t miss it, they should regularly check the official Metro Twitter account. Meanwhile, the Metro series may have some exciting news on the horizon. Following the release of the Metro Awakening VR game in November, developers 4A Games are reportedly working on a fourth mainline Metro game. Although there’s no concrete information yet, it’s speculated that we might hear about this new game soon. However, nothing has been officially confirmed as of now.
