LEGO and Pokémon have teamed up, and their first sets are being released this month! These initial sets are likely to be a hit with fans and successful for both companies. While these first releases give us a taste of what’s to come, this is just the start of a much larger collaboration.
New LEGO Pokémon sets are expected to be released later this year. Recent reports suggest these sets will be more budget-friendly and will feature recently developed LEGO technology, offering a fresh way to play with the classic building bricks.
Pokemon LEGO Sets Releasing This Summer:
- Squirrel’s Training Buggy Adventure
- Charmander’s Wild Encounter with Geodude
- Pikachu’s Training House
- Cubone vs Gengar’s Ghost Challenge
- Jolteon vs Charizard
- Scorbunny Evolution
- Stadium Bus
- Eevee Evolution
- Dojo House and Riolu
- Mewtwo Lab
LEGO is planning to release at least ten more Pokémon sets later this year, and many of them seem to be smaller builds. Some sets will feature battles between different Pokémon, while others will showcase Pokémon evolving. I’m particularly excited about the Mewtwo Lab set, which appears to include the legendary Pokémon Mewtwo displayed behind glass – it should look fantastic on display!

The really exciting thing about the latest LEGO Pokémon sets is that they’re designed to be more interactive than the first ones. While the initial sets featured Pokémon like Eevee, Pikachu, and the evolved forms of the original three starters, these new sets will all work with the ‘Smart Play’ system – a new LEGO feature that adds more ways to play and interact with your builds.
LEGO Pokemon is Getting Its Own Smart Play Line
Smart Bricks let LEGO creations come to life with lights and sounds. When you add a Smart Brick to your build and it touches another special LEGO piece – like a Smart Minifigure or Tag – it will light up or make a noise. The Smart Brick can also detect movement thanks to its built-in motion sensor, adding another layer of interaction to your play.
The initial LEGO Smart Play sets, featuring Star Wars, will be available in March. More sets are planned for release later in the year, including Pokemon-themed options. These Pokemon sets will be key to determining if there’s enough interest in the Smart Play system to continue its development.
As a big LEGO and Pokémon fan, I’ve been following the news about the new sets, and there’s a bit of a worry about how LEGO’s ‘Smart Play’ feature is being implemented. From what’s been leaked, it looks like only one of the summer Pokémon sets – the Pikachu’s Training House – is currently planned to include a Smart Brick. Now, things could change between now and the actual release, but right now, that set seems to be the only one with that interactive piece.

Even with some worries about the Smart Play system, it’s great news that more LEGO Pokémon sets are coming soon, and many of them should be cheaper than the first sets released. While a large LEGO Pokémon set featuring Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur sounds amazing, $650 is quite expensive. If you’re interested in collecting LEGO Pokémon, expect these new sets – particularly those that work with Smart Play – to be more affordable.
