As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for the dark and mysterious, I can’t help but be intrigued by the latest offering from Double Eleven – Blindfire. The concept of a first-person arena shooter set in a visually limited world where players must rely on their abilities and senses to navigate and defeat opponents is right up my alley.
At the Xbox Partner Preview gathering on Tuesday, Double Eleven unveiled their freshly developed title called Blindfire. Moreover, this game is now available for early playthrough on Xbox Series X|S and personal computers (PC).
In the game known as Blindfire, players find themselves in a pitch-black environment with minimal visual cues. To succeed, they must depend on their skills and keen senses to locate adversaries and eliminate them, since sight alone offers little help.
According to a conversation with Xbox Wire, it was revealed by the lead designer, Matt Dunthorne, that the inspiration behind the game originated from one of the company’s “Brainstorming Days,” during which teams within the organization generate fictional scenarios and challenges.
Immediately upon hearing the pitch, I sensed it was extraordinary – there was an electric atmosphere when they discussed it, and it lingered in my thoughts for days. To me, what makes this idea so appealing is its simplicity; it’s a pure core concept without any unnecessary frills, and you can sum it up in just one sentence.

In this game, there’s a primary gameplay mode known as “Bodycount.” This mode can be played in two ways – either cooperatively with a team or competitively in a free-for-all. Simultaneously, the matches can accommodate as many as eight players.
In the game, Blindfire uses an echo system to display the borders of your nearby environment, assisting you in locating enemies and maintaining your orientation. Additionally, there’s a feature called “Last Seen Location” that reveals the recent movements of your adversaries.
In terms of weaponry, Double Eleven ensures that all players start with identical abilities and weapons during early access. Initially, there are two weapons: a pistol named Mantis and a shotgun dubbed Abolition. As the game progresses, additional weapons will be introduced, but the aim is to avoid the conventional setup of player loadouts.
