For five years, Dr. Stone has been making waves in the anime community. Yet, it seems like its conclusion is coming sooner than expected as we’ve already adapted 142 chapters from the manga into the anime format. However, there are still 90 chapters left to go in the final installments of Dr. Stone. The upcoming fourth season will have plenty of material to keep us engaged, and recent reports suggest that it will be divided into three parts, which we’ll explore further in this article.
In simpler terms, we can’t precisely predict which story arcs from the final season of Dr. Stone are fully represented in each part because there are four complete arcs and three parts. Instead, we’ll discuss the key points of the remaining arcs in the manga’s main plot, their impact on characters, potential changes in the anime adaptation, and the series’ overall implications. We’ll also analyze popular fan responses to these manga arcs to estimate the success of the final season of Dr. Stone.
How Did The Previous Season End?
So We Know Where Season 4 Will Begin
In the finale of Dr. Stone, the crew managed to reawaken Tsukasa, who used to be the main adversary in the series. They utilized the Medusa device to defrost him from a frozen state, followed by revival fluid to bring him back to life. Upon realizing the circumstances, Tsukasa promptly offered his skills to aid the team’s grand vision of producing more revitalizing fluids and restoring the world. Despite this, he continues to aspire for a righteous society free from exploitation, though he vows to achieve it through less confrontational means in the future.
After much preparation, the team embarks onboard the Perseus, a vessel designed for exploration and scientific advancement, in search of the United States. The importance of corn in American history suggests it could be an ideal location for growth; they require corn not only for its role in revival fluid’s alcohol content but also as a supplementary food source. With Senku at the helm, the team sets off with high spirits, eager to establish a progressive, science-driven future.
What Can We Expect From Season 4?
Discovering The Americas (Again), And A Rocket To The Moon
In Season 4 of Dr. Stone, we delve into an uncompleted storyline from Season 3 – the New America City Arc. The team journeys to what was once North America, seeking fertile ground to cultivate corn. Upon arrival, they encounter Dr. Xeno, a NASA scientist turned city-rebuilder who established a rigid society in this region. Interestingly, Dr. Xeno is Senku’s former mentor. Alongside Dr. Xeno, Dr. Stanley acts as his right-hand man, attempting to thwart the Kingdom of Science from gaining influence in North America. Despite these obstacles, the team presses on and initiates the construction of New America City, a city based on ideals like hope and cooperation – contrasting sharply with Dr. Xeno’s authoritarian rule.
On opposite ends, the architects of civilization embark on a technological competition, each defending their strategies – the Kingdom of Science pursuing peaceful solutions, while Dr. Xeno’s faction concentrates on military technology. After a string of conflicts, abductions, and disorder, a truce is reached enabling the Kingdom of Science to construct the City of Corn as initially intended, with Dr. Xeno now joining forces with them. Eventually, they escape to South America to avoid Stanley’s retaliation and his determination to reinstate Dr. Xeno under his control.
In this segment, we delve into the South American leg of our journey, where our heroes find themselves pursued by Stanley, their relentless pursuer. Simultaneously, they uncover the origin of the initial petrifaction that set off the chain of events shaping our current world. It’s revealed that this petrifaction incident was not a solitary event, and there is a possibility of it recurring. Senku readies his team to counteract Medusa’s powers and starts to grasp more about the Why-Man. His plan is to confront him on the moon, aiming to terminate the petrifaction events once and for all. Regrettably, during this phase, the world is petrified a second time.
In the New Stone World Arc, following the second petrification incident, Suika is the lone crew member reborn. Over a span of years, she sets about recreating revival fluid from scratch. Eventually, after countless attempts and setbacks, she manages to restore Senku to life. With Senku back, he swiftly brings the rest of the team back to life. Together, they build Superalloy City, their temporary residence while they work on constructing a rocket to reach the moon and vanquish Why-Man. As part of this endeavor, they develop liquid fuel and rocket engines. Later, the team splits up to tackle diverse objectives aimed at advancing civilization further.
“The first stop is Spain! We will find plenty of flourite in Barcelona!”
In the upcoming storyline titled “Globetrotting Adventure,” our heroes journey across the globe to amass resources essential for their lunar expedition against the enigmatic antagonist, the Why-Man. Their itinerary takes them to Spain where they seek fluorite for a telescope, India in search of a legendary mathematician, and bustling urban centers worldwide to manufacture additional necessary materials. Notable destinations on this global tour include Aluminum City in Australia and Rubber City in Indonesia.
The closing storyline is known as the Lunar Journey Saga. After skillfully sending off their rocket carrying Senku, Kohaku, and now peaceful Stanley, the team successfully completes the launch. On the moon, they uncover that the enigmatic figure, Why-Man, is in fact an artificial intelligence born from the Medusa petrification devices. The Why-Man then discloses that the purpose of the petrifications was to maintain humanity in a state of immortality by halting aging and death. As they ponder over this revelation, the team understands that the Why-Man perceived its actions as safeguarding mankind from suffering. Senku then engages in a deep conversation with the AI, arguing about the essence of human nature, ultimately convincing it to cease further petrification events.
The first cour of Season 4 of Dr. Stone premieres January 2025, on Crunchyroll.
