Dragon Ball: 16 Strongest Movie Only Transformations, Ranked

Prior to Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, the Dragon Ball movies weren’t considered part of the main storyline. They often didn’t fit with what was happening in the series and frequently featured villains who felt like copies of the ones already appearing in the Dragon Ball Z anime. This led to unique character transformations and abilities that were exclusive to those films.

Transformations in Dragon Ball movies sometimes reach power levels that don’t make sense when compared to the rest of the series, becoming surprisingly strong. However, because the Dragon Ball Super manga has now included forms like Full Power Super Saiyan Broly, Gohan Beast, and Orange Piccolo—and has featured Broly prominently since his debut—these aren’t considered exclusive to the movies anymore.

16. Super Garlic Junior

Dead Zone

Garlic Junior holds the distinction of being the very first villain in a Dragon Ball Z movie, and he was also the first character to successfully use the wish-granting Dragon Balls to become immortal. When he transforms into his Super Garlic Junior form, he gains enough power to battle both Goku and Piccolo simultaneously.

I remember watching Super Garlic Junior at full power – his Power Level hit 1,450! That was seriously impressive, way stronger than Goku and Piccolo were when Dragon Ball Z first started. He was only 50 points weaker than Raditz! But surprisingly, he wasn’t beaten by a stronger fighter. Gohan, fueled by a burst of anger, actually launched him into the Dead Zone and sealed him away there. It was a clever victory, not just a show of force.

15. Fruit of the Tree of Might Boosted Turles

Tree of Might

Turles is a remarkably powerful Saiyan, and the central villain in the movie Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might. Even in his normal state, he’s stronger than Vegeta was when he first arrived on Earth, with a Power Level of 19,000. But when Turles eats the Fruit of the Tree of Might, his strength increases dramatically.

Turles, after consuming Fruit from the Tree of Might, reached a power level of 300,000. This made him more powerful than anyone during the early part of the Namek Saga, except for Frieza in his first form. Had Turles continued eating the fruit, he likely would have become stronger than Frieza very quickly.

14. Giant Slug

Lord Slug

The movie Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug retells familiar story beats from earlier in the series, including the epic battles against Demon King Piccolo, Goku and Piccolo’s fight at the World Martial Arts Tournament, and Goku’s showdown with Frieza on Namek. In the film, Lord Slug attempts to regain his former power by wishing for youthfulness and then grows into a colossal, even more formidable opponent.

While Piccolo didn’t get stronger when he grew large during the World Martial Arts Tournament, Giant Lord Slug does become significantly more powerful when he increases in size. His power level is probably comparable to Frieza in his third form, or maybe Frieza at half strength in his final form.

13. Pseudo Super Saiyan Goku

Lord Slug

Interestingly, Toei Animation showed off a Super Saiyan form in their anime before Akira Toriyama revealed Goku’s transformation in the original Dragon Ball manga. During the fight with Lord Slug, Goku briefly becomes what’s called a “Pseudo Super Saiyan”—an incomplete and unstable version of the form because he hadn’t yet met the requirements for a full Super Saiyan transformation.

Goku’s Pseudo Super Saiyan form gives him the strength to overcome Lord Slug, but it doesn’t last very long. Because this form is different from the standard Super Saiyan, it probably doesn’t multiply his power by 50 times like a regular Super Saiyan does. However, it still provides a significant boost, allowing Goku to gain the upper hand against Slug.

12. Final Form Cooler

Cooler’s Revenge

Cooler, Frieza’s older brother, is often considered a more compelling villain, and he’s also more powerful. He appears in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge, seeking revenge on Goku after learning that a Saiyan defeated his brother. In his final form, Cooler’s power level is roughly equal to Frieza’s.

Cooler, in his most powerful form, is significantly stronger than Frieza was during the Namek saga. In the movie Cooler’s Revenge, Goku doesn’t initially know how to transform into a Super Saiyan on his own. He only unlocks this ability after Cooler nearly defeats him, forcing the transformation. As a Super Saiyan, Goku gains enough power to defeat Cooler and send him flying into the sun.

11. Kaioken x100 Goku

Lord Slug

In the Dragon Ball Z manga and anime series, Goku only uses Kaioken up to 20 times its normal strength. Kaioken is a risky move that quickly drains stamina and can seriously injure the user, and his fight against Frieza demonstrates that 20x is the most he can handle. However, this isn’t true in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug.

When Goku can no longer use his incomplete Super Saiyan form, he has to take his Kaioken technique to a whole new level. Reaching Kaioken x100 gives him a power increase similar to that of a Super Saiyan 2. If we estimate Goku’s power level at 3,000,000 during his fight with Lord Slug – the same as when he fought Frieza – then Kaioken x100 would boost him to 300,000,000, making him twice as powerful as he was when fighting Frieza in his Super Saiyan form.

10. Meta-Cooler

Return of Cooler

The Big Gete Star allowed Meta-Cooler to survive being destroyed. As shown in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Return of Cooler, Meta-Cooler is exceptionally powerful, surpassing both Super Saiyan Goku and Super Saiyan Vegeta in strength. It required the combined efforts of both Super Saiyans to narrowly overcome even a single Meta-Cooler.

Meta-Cooler isn’t powerful because of how strong one individual is, but because of how many copies exist. If they’d had the opportunity, the sheer number of Meta-Cooler clones could have overwhelmed and defeated the Super Saiyans. While Goku and Vegeta barely managed to win, it shows Meta-Cooler is stronger than Dr. Gero and Android 19, but not as strong as Androids 17 and 18.

9. Super Android 13

Super Android 13!

When absorbing the technology from Android 14 and Android 15, Android 13 dramatically transforms into Super Android 13. This new form is incredibly powerful, easily overpowering Goku and giving him a brutal beating – one of the worst he’s ever received in a movie, including a particularly painful blow.

Considering the movies usually maintain the same power levels as the original anime and manga, Super Android 13 can’t be more powerful than Semi-Perfect Cell. If he were, Goku, Vegeta, and Future Trunks wouldn’t have survived their fight against him. Therefore, Super Android 13 is likely somewhere in strength between Imperfect Cell and Semi-Perfect Cell.

8. Spirit Bomb Super Saiyan Goku

Super Android 13!

The Spirit Bomb needs a completely pure heart to work, which means Goku can’t actually use it while transformed into a Super Saiyan. It might seem strange, then, that he uses it against Kid Buu at the end of Dragon Ball Z, but he’d already gathered all the energy for the Spirit Bomb beforehand. The Super Saiyan transformation just gave him the extra power needed to launch it.

In Super Android 13!, Goku transforms into a Spirit Bomb Super Saiyan by absorbing his own Spirit Bomb attack. This surge of energy from a Super Saiyan taking in so much life force gives Goku enough power to defeat Super Android 13 with one hit. He later repeats this kind of victory against Legendary Super Saiyan Broly, but instead of his Spirit Bomb, he absorbs the energy of everyone around him.

7. Super Saiyan A-Type Broly

Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan

Super Saiyan A-Type is a limited form of Super Saiyan 1 that only appears when Broly uses it in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan. A special ring created by his father, Paragus, prevents Broly from fully transforming, keeping his immense power under control.

Even with his limitations, Super Saiyan A-Type Broly remains incredibly strong – capable of destroying a whole galaxy. He gives Super Saiyan Goku and Super Saiyan Second Grade Vegeta a truly epic battle. Most estimations place his power level somewhere between Semi-Perfect Cell and Perfect Cell.
