I’m a huge Dragon Ball fan, and one thing that always stands out to me about Goku is just how unbelievably strong he’s become – seriously, he’s one of the most powerful beings in the whole universe! But it got me thinking, are there other anime characters out there who could actually go toe-to-toe with him? Let’s dive in and see who might be his equal.
Vegeta Is Goku’s Actual Rival In The Same Series
Anime: Dragon Ball
Before comparing Goku to characters from other shows, it’s important to remember his greatest rival within his own series: Prince Vegeta. Initially, Vegeta was Goku’s enemy, but he later became a powerful ally and dedicated himself to reaching the same level of strength.
Vegeta and Goku are essential to each other’s growth. They’ve always pushed one another to become stronger, creating a deep, though often unacknowledged, connection. Even now, with Goku achieving the incredible power of Ultra Instinct, Vegeta has responded by unlocking his own Ultra Ego form, putting him once again on equal footing with his rival.
Sung Jinwoo Becomes An Unstoppable Warrior
Anime: Solo Leveling
Jinwoo’s journey in Solo Leveling is remarkable. He began as an incredibly weak E-Rank Hunter, but through a unique power system that allows him to constantly improve his abilities, he climbed the ranks to become an S-Rank Hunter – and continues to grow even stronger throughout the story.
As the series progresses, Jinwoo becomes unbelievably powerful, and his growing army of Shadows allows him to battle even the strongest opponents, known as Monarchs. What truly makes him a match for someone like Goku is his unique ability to absorb defeated enemies and add them to his forces – this is how he gained allies like the Ant King and Igris, significantly boosting his strength.
Satoru Gojo Has The Greatest Defense Of All Time
Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen
Gojo is a remarkably powerful character, often compared to Goku due to his overwhelming strength. He’s considered the strongest sorcerer of his time, and his power is so immense that almost no one – except the incredibly powerful Ryomen Sukuna – stands a chance against him, though his selection as a top character has sparked some debate.
Gojo’s unique power, called Limitless, includes an ability named Infinity. This creates an invisible barrier around him that stretches the distance between him and anyone attacking, making it nearly impossible to harm him. While Goku is much stronger in most ways, Gojo’s incredible defense and skill with techniques like Reverse Cursed Technique make him a challenging opponent.
Yhwach Can Hop Between Timelines
Anime: Bleach
Similar to the situation with Gojo, Goku is significantly more powerful than Yhwach physically and overall. However, Yhwach possesses an incredibly potent ability called The Almighty, which makes him one of the strongest characters in Bleach and gives him a real chance against Goku in a fight.
I watched as Yhwach demonstrated an unbelievable ability – he could see countless possible futures all at once, and instantly switch to any one of them. It wasn’t just a way to avoid attacks; he completely dictated the battle, able to jump between timelines and essentially steal victory from any situation. While he might not be physically as strong as someone like Goku, this power, The Almighty, leveled the playing field, allowing him to fight on equal terms.
No Shonen Anime Rules Apply To Saitama
Anime: One Punch Man
Saitama was designed to poke fun at the common trope in action anime where characters constantly get stronger and stronger. He’s intentionally ridiculously powerful – able to defeat any enemy with just one punch, which is where the series gets its name. Throughout the story, Saitama has demonstrated power levels so extreme that even a character like Goku would struggle to keep up.
Saitama’s powers are ridiculously over-the-top – he’s shown feats like destroying Jupiter with a sneeze, physically holding a wormhole open, and even traveling at light speed by farting! These intentionally funny displays highlight that Saitama is a character with virtually no limits, capable of defeating gods with ease. This establishes him not just as Goku’s equal, but as someone even more powerful.
