Dragon Ball: 5 Characters Who Fought Frieza And Won

Frieza is an incredibly powerful character in the Dragon Ball series, and he’s continued to grow even stronger since reappearing in Dragon Ball Super. Currently, in the manga’s ‘Granolah the Survivor’ arc, he’s once again the strongest being of his kind. The Z-Fighters don’t currently have anyone capable of defeating or even effectively fighting Black Frieza.

Although Frieza is incredibly powerful, he’s been defeated before when the odds were stacked against him, and it seems likely he’ll finally be defeated for good at the end of the Black Frieza Saga. Throughout both Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, his immense power hasn’t been enough to prevent losses to the strongest Super Saiyans. He consistently struggles against Saiyans and has a history of being beaten by them.

Super Saiyan Goku Was the First Person in History to Defeat Frieza

Before facing Goku, Frieza had never been defeated – he was naturally powerful enough that he didn’t even need to practice. Their first encounter proved different. While Frieza initially held back, only using a fraction of his full strength and playing with Goku, everything changed when Goku transformed into a Super Saiyan, dramatically shifting the battle in his favor.

Throughout the final battle on Namek, Frieza is gradually overpowered by Goku, who has transformed into a Super Saiyan. Despite using his most powerful form, Frieza can’t close the gap in strength, and Goku dominates him. Ultimately, Goku easily defeats Frieza, almost killing him before the planet Namek is destroyed.

Super Saiyan Future Trunks Killed Mecha Frieza in Literal Seconds

Even though Goku tried to kill Frieza on Namek, his attack wasn’t quite powerful enough to finish him off. Frieza was discovered among the planet’s ruins by his father, King Cold, and rebuilt as Mecha Frieza. Fueled by revenge, Mecha Frieza travels to Earth with the goal of eliminating Goku’s friends before finally defeating Goku himself.

Luckily, Future Trunks went back in time to the moment Frieza arrived and quickly defeated him, slicing him to pieces before Frieza could even attack. In Trunks’ timeline, Goku used Instant Transmission to arrive before Mecha Frieza could battle the Z-Fighters, eliminating both him and King Cold instead.

Super Saiyan Blue Goku Beat Frieza Again in Resurrection F

In Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F, Golden Frieza initially seemed more powerful than both Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta. However, he didn’t practice using his Golden form. He immediately went to Earth after achieving it, and as a result, he quickly tired during his fight with Super Saiyan Blue Goku.

During his battle with Golden Frieza, Super Saiyan Blue Goku gradually starts to dominate, withstanding Frieza’s attacks while delivering devastating blows that deplete Frieza’s energy. Although Goku overwhelms Frieza, the fight is interrupted when Sorbet shoots Goku, leading to a temporary stalemate. However, Goku ultimately defeats Frieza shortly after.

Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta Technically Beats Golden Frieza in Resurrection F

Despite Frieza destroying Earth—and Vegeta along with it—towards the end of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F, Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta ultimately defeats Golden Frieza. Frieza exhausts much of his energy fighting Super Saiyan Blue Goku, leaving him too weak to compete with Vegeta’s superior power.

Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta completely dominated Golden Frieza, delivering a satisfying and brutal beating. Frieza was almost helpless against Vegeta’s onslaught, and Vegeta fully overpowered him. However, Vegeta hesitated for a moment, wondering how to finish Frieza, and that brief pause allowed Frieza to destroy the planet. While Vegeta won the fight, Frieza ultimately won by destroying everything around them.

Legendary Super Saiyan Broly Obliterated Frieza For Hours

When Goku and Vegeta found themselves outmatched by the incredibly powerful Broly, even while using their Super Saiyan Blue transformations, they decided to try a different approach. Goku teleported them away to practice the Fusion Dance, hoping their combined power as Gogeta would be enough to defeat him. This left Frieza on his own to face Broly, who dominated him for about an hour.

It’s remarkable that Frieza lasted as long as he did against Broly. Legendary Super Saiyan Broly is far more powerful than Golden Frieza – even Goku and Vegeta couldn’t fight him for very long. However, calling it a “fight” isn’t accurate; Broly mostly just overwhelmed Frieza, who couldn’t effectively defend himself or retaliate.
