Dragon Ball: 5 Video Game Characters Stronger Than Goku

Look, it’s cool and all, but the first thing I always wonder is: could this new character even beat Goku? It’s the same with anyone super powerful, like Superman or Saitama – people always end up comparing them to Goku. Honestly, these debates can get pretty intense, but I love seeing characters from totally different worlds pitted against each other, especially when they’re so unbelievably strong that it’s hard to find anyone on their level.

Goku is far more powerful than most video game characters, but a few heroes could potentially defeat him. These characters don’t necessarily rely on brute strength; instead, they break the rules of physics or reality, giving them an advantage Goku can’t overcome. They possess weapons or abilities that he can’t defend against or anticipate.

Since every fictional world has its own specific rules, it’s hard to say for sure who would win in a fight. Really, comparing characters like this is just for entertainment!

Kirby Would Eat Goku Alive

The Most Adorable Eldritch Horror Ever

  • Game/s: Kirby franchise
  • Most Powerful Ability: Inhale & Copy
  • Impressive Feats: Defeated The Destroyer of Worlds (Void Termina), Dimension-Warping Beings (Fecto Elfilis)

Goku, despite his incredible strength, has a surprising weakness: characters known for comical or silly abilities. We see this in Dragon Ball Super episode 69 when Arale from Dr. Slump battles both Goku and Vegeta, though it’s hardly a fair fight. In fact, Arale may have handed Goku his most decisive defeat – he couldn’t even get a hit in!

Kirby is surprisingly more powerful than even Arale, and many consider him the ultimate comedic character. This cute, pink hero can swallow almost anything – even incredibly powerful attacks like the Kamehameha or Spirit Bomb! He can even copy and fire those attacks back at opponents, like Goku, who isn’t as resilient as Kirby. In one of his games, Kirby Super Star, Kirby casually splits an entire planet in half with a single punch – a feat usually reserved for god-like beings! He’s defeated unbelievably powerful, otherworldly monsters without even seeming to try.

Goku often gets careless in fights, like when Sorbet shot him with a ray gun in Resurrection ‘F’ or when Krillin hit him with a rock before the Cell Games. Because of this tendency, Kirby might be able to swallow Goku, which would mean everyone loses.

Destructor Asura Would Punch Goku In The Face Until He Died

He Defeated The Creator Of The Universe

  • Game/s: Asura’s Wrath
  • Most Powerful Ability: Limitless power fueled by his Mantra of Wrath
  • Impressive Feats: Defeated Chakravartin, the Creator of the Universe, through sheer anger

Asura’s Wrath plays like an interactive battle anime, structured like a series of episodes with lots of cutscenes. It takes the idea of characters constantly getting stronger to an extreme, almost becoming a joke. The main character, Asura, is a demigod whose strength is tied to his anger, and he has virtually no limit. Unlike characters like Goku, who have a limited time for their most powerful forms, Asura just keeps growing stronger and stronger—even his body changes to handle it—until the story concludes, and even those limits disappear.

The game Asura’s Wrath starts with Asura destroying an incredibly powerful enemy with a single punch, and he only gets stronger from there. He grows to be larger than planets, casually deflects stars, and ultimately defeats the being who created his entire universe. This creator, Chakravartin, is similar to Zeno from Dragon Ball Super, and Asura completely obliterates him. Frankly, even Goku wouldn’t stand a chance against Asura at his peak.

Asura’s power is essentially Vegeta’s Ultra Ego without any physical limiters.

Cutscene Bayonetta Would Tangle Goku In Her Hair And Confuse Him

She Has Defeated Literal Gods & Universe-Destroying Beings

  • Game/s: Bayonetta franchise
  • Most Powerful Ability: Witch Time
  • Impressive Feats: Punched Jubileus, the creator, into the sun (with some help)

Characters often demonstrate different levels of strength in cutscenes versus actual gameplay. While they might appear incredibly powerful in story sequences, they’re usually much more vulnerable when you’re controlling them. Dante from Devil May Cry is a well-known example, but Bayonetta really highlights this difference. During gameplay, Bayonetta can be hurt by regular sword attacks and takes several hits to defeat even simple enemies.

Bayonetta’s cutscenes are over-the-top displays of power, showing her effortlessly performing incredible feats like headbutting skyscrapers, kicking jets, catching satellites, and even throwing space stations – all while looking fantastic and never seeming tired. She also manages to defeat two powerful gods, Jubileus and Aesir. This contrasts sharply with the gameplay, where Bayonetta has to fight hard for every victory. In cutscenes, she’s always dominant and never really faces any danger.

Goku is incredibly strong, but he often has trouble with opponents who fight in unusual ways. Bayonetta would likely be a difficult match for him, as her magic is more powerful and easier to use than techniques like Hit’s Time-Skip, which already gave Goku trouble. Bayonetta’s attacks damage both the body and spirit, and it would be fascinating to see how Goku handles that. In fact, Goku prefers challenging opponents, so he might even allow Bayonetta to fully cast her spells – possibly even teaming up with Jeanne to summon a powerful demon like Queen Sheba, ending the fight quickly.

At Her Peak, Lightning Can Defeat Nearly Anybody

The Final Spirit Bomb

  • Game/s: Final Fantasy 13 Trilogy (but Lightning Returns specifically)
  • Most Powerful Ability: Soul Manipulation
  • Impressive Feats: Defeats A God-Like Being

Goku’s power level in the Dragon Ball series dramatically increases, transforming him from a skilled fighter into someone who can battle gods. Lightning, from the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, experiences a comparable evolution, and some might say her rise is even more impressive. By Lightning Returns, she’s been chosen by the god Bhunivelze to save humanity, tasking her with collecting souls as a physical representation of death itself.

As Lightning absorbs the souls of others, she gains power and eventually becomes a goddess, earning the title of Goddess of Death. Though she relies on help and temporarily loses her abilities afterward, she ultimately defeats Bhunivelze. While Bhunivelze isn’t all-powerful, he’s still a god capable of creating worlds and other beings, making Lightning’s win a truly remarkable feat.

Because of how Soul Manipulation works, Lightning’s power is essentially a massively enhanced Spirit Bomb. This means, unlike in many battles, she doesn’t need to pause and charge up before unleashing a devastating attack capable of defeating opponents far stronger than Majin Buu. While Goku can physically destroy planets, he’d struggle against something that attacks the very idea of life and death.

True Arceus Would Erase Goku Before He Even Knows What Is Happening

The Pokemon That Shaped The Universe

  • Game/s: Pokemon Legends: Arceus
  • Most Powerful Ability: Avatars
  • Impressive Feats: Created the Pokemon Universe

You’re probably wondering how a Pokémon, something a young child can capture, could possibly be more powerful than Goku (Kakarot).

In the game, players don’t actually catch the true Arceus, but a representation of it. The real Arceus is presented as something beyond our full understanding. What we do know is that Arceus is the creator of the Pokémon universe, and the original creator of powerful Legendary Pokémon like Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, who each control time, space, and antimatter. Because of this, it’s logical to believe Arceus controls them all. Arceus can also change its type to match any element thanks to its Plates, which could potentially offer some defense against attacks like Goku’s, though it’s not a perfect comparison. While Goku is incredibly strong, he hasn’t reached the level of Beerus yet, and Arceus appears to be even more powerful than a God of Destruction like Beerus.
