In Dragon Ball, Vegeta often ends up looking foolish during fights. He’s quick to boast about his strength and claim he’s far superior to his opponents, but then he’s quickly defeated and humbled, proving his boasts were premature.
Vegeta’s strong pride and overconfidence as a Saiyan often lead to embarrassing defeats in Dragon Ball. While fans always root for him, the series is full of memorable moments where his opponents completely humiliate him in unexpected ways.
Android 18 Breaks Vegeta’s Arms
Vegeta definitely didn’t want to be defeated by one of Dr. Gero’s androids. He was surprised that Android 18 could even match his strength, and even more shocked when she unleashed her full power. Even as a Super Saiyan, Vegeta couldn’t effectively defend himself, which pleased Android 17 as he watched the battle.
Android 18 quickly overpowered Vegeta, first breaking his left arm and then his right after he fired a desperate energy blast. Despite his boasts, Vegeta couldn’t hurt her, and his attempt only left him defenseless and utterly humiliated.
Frieza Makes Vegeta Cry
It takes an incredibly powerful and cruel villain, like Frieza, to truly devastate Vegeta and make him break down emotionally. During the battle on Planet Namek, Frieza repeatedly crushed Vegeta’s pride by easily defeating him, dismissing even his strongest attacks as insignificant.
Vegeta finally understands he’s no match for Frieza in his current state, leaving him with nowhere else to turn. Overcome with despair, he cries—a first for the proud Saiyan prince. These aren’t just tears of sadness, but a visible sign of his complete defeat by the villain who destroyed everything he held dear.
Zarbon Manhandles Vegeta
I noticed Vegeta has a tendency to underestimate people, and Zarbon, one of Frieza’s soldiers, was on the receiving end of that. Vegeta confidently told Zarbon he’d gotten much stronger – strong enough, he claimed, to even take on Frieza by himself.
Zarbon consistently refuses to yield, and their brief fight with Vegeta pushed the Saiyan prince to transform into a grotesque, toad-like form. This unexpected change caught Vegeta completely off guard, leading to another embarrassing defeat despite his earlier boasts and confidence.
Perfect Cell Humbles Vegeta
Vegeta is always eager to battle powerful enemies, and this desire led him to surprisingly help Semi-Perfect Cell absorb Android 18, even though Krillin and Future Trunks were trying to prevent it. This ultimately allowed Cell to reach his complete form, and Vegeta’s impulsive actions and bad decision were major factors in the trouble that followed.
Vegeta’s pride and refusal to admit defeat led to his loss against Perfect Cell, who became much more powerful. After Cell transformed, Vegeta’s attacks were no longer effective, clearly demonstrating how much stronger Cell had become and leaving Vegeta unable to defend himself.

Broly Freaks Out Vegeta
In the 1993 film Dragon Ball Z: Broly—The Legendary Super Saiyan, Vegeta disappointed many fans when he hesitated to help fight Broly. While Goku, Piccolo, Trunks, and Gohan all teamed up against him, Vegeta gave up, believing they couldn’t win even if they fought together.
Piccolo was stunned to see Vegeta, usually so proud and confident, give in to fear. It was especially shocking because they desperately needed all of Vegeta’s power to win against their opponent. Unfortunately, Vegeta was paralyzed by fear and self-doubt when facing Broly.
Goku Lets Vegeta Live
When Vegeta first arrived on Earth, he assumed he was far stronger than anyone, including Kakarot (Goku) and his friends. He was certain he’d easily win against Goku. But things didn’t go as expected. Goku, Krillin, Gohan, and even Yajirobe managed to push Vegeta to his limits, forcing him to fight desperately for survival.
As Vegeta struggles to escape in his pod, Krillin intends to strike the final blow using Yajirobe’s sword. However, Goku intervenes, showing Vegeta mercy—at least, that’s how it’s portrayed in the English dub. In the original Japanese version, Goku spares Vegeta with the expectation of a rematch in the future.
Arale Blows Vegeta Away
In a special, non-official episode of Dragon Ball Super, Arale from Dr. Slump unexpectedly shows up and playfully battles Vegeta. Despite Vegeta’s incredible strength, Arale repeatedly defeats him in a humorous and over-the-top fashion.
Vegeta gets frustrated with Arale, arguing her abilities are ridiculous and unbeatable as a comedic character. Unable to prove his strength, Vegeta ends up hilariously defeated in a one-sided fight, completely overwhelmed by her over-the-top power.
Kid Buu Trolls Vegeta
Kid Buu is a playful troublemaker who enjoys provoking Vegeta, whom he sees as beneath him. He considers Vegeta’s frustration amusing, viewing the Saiyan’s pride as something to be toyed with rather than respected.

Kid Buu treats Goku similarly, but he’s far more chaotic and disrespectful towards Vegeta. He openly taunted and mocked the Saiyan Prince, even dancing in front of him. To make matters worse, Vegeta was forced to take a severe beating just to stall for time while Goku powered up.
