Dragon Ball: Characters Who Have Destroyed Planets

Dragon Ball: Characters Who Have Destroyed Planets

Key Takeaways

  • Frieza is 2nd to only Beerus in planet destruction
  • Cell had a fluke in destroying Earth, saved by Goku
  • Vegeta destroyed many planets in the past but is now a good guy

As a long-time fan of Dragon Ball, I can’t help but marvel at the sheer power and destructive capabilities these characters possess. From the cunning and ruthless Zamasu to the God of Destruction Beerus, and all the way up to the almighty Zeno Sama, each one holds a unique position in the grand scheme of things.

In Dragon Ball, there are numerous potent characters, but not every character can boast about having the ability to obliterate a planet. The show’s lore suggests that destroying a world demands more than just raw power; it requires precision to strike at its core or, at least, that’s the general idea. Ignoring astrophysics for a moment, planets are large and robust targets, so even a perfectly aimed Kamehameha might not be enough to annihilate one entirely.

This list features characters who, through accident or sheer enjoyment of chaos, have destroyed entire worlds in their respective stories. Ranging from the well-known Galactic Despot to the divine Being controlling the cosmic fabric itself.

10 Frieza

The Emperor’s Planet Kill Count Is Second Only To The God Of Destruction

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball manga chapter #247 Dark Clouds Swirl Over Planet Namek
  • Current Status: Alive

From the moment Frieza emerged, it was clear that his existence revolved around ruling galaxies. One wouldn’t expect any less from a tyrant operating in interstellar space, especially when it comes to causing destruction. The annihilation of planets started during the Frieza/Saiyan Invasion saga, making it a distinctive trait of his – dominating some worlds and obliterating others as he went.

Frieza, the emperor, boasts the second highest tally of destroyed planets, only surpassed by Beerus, the god of destruction himself. It’s no surprise then that he is a strong contender for the position when Beerus, known for his cat-like laziness but immense power, decides to retire.

9 Cell

It Was A Fluke, But Still Deserves To Be On The List

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball manga chapter #361 The Mysterious Monster, Finally Appears!!
  • Current Status: Dead

The entity was a formidable one, crafted from the cells of numerous Z-fighters, including Frieza himself. Its might was such that at the height of its arrogance, just moments before its demise, it was prepared to obliterate the entire planet Earth along with itself.

Fortunately, Goku and his swift teleportation skill came in handy just when needed, rescuing the situation. However, in classic Goku fashion, he found himself on Kaio Sama’s planet with the Cell-bomb ticking down. Thus, it’s fair to say that both of them share the credit for this destructive event.

8 Goku

Should Share The Credits With Cell

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball manga Chapter 1 – Bulma and Son Goku
  • Current Status: Alive

To rephrase, let me explain how Goku, who contributed to Kaio Sama’s world being destroyed and bears some guilt alongside Cell, indirectly played a part in the destruction of Namek as well, even though it may seem unrelated at first glance.

In their confrontation against Frieza, Goku had numerous opportunities to bring an end to the villain before detonating a bomb on the planet. However, consumed by rage and lack of control, those chances slipped away from him. He wanted Frieza to pay for his actions towards Krillin and the people of Namek; thus, two planets bear Goku’s responsibility for destruction. Interestingly, if he so desired, he could easily erase a few worlds as demonstrated when Zamasu seized control over his body, utilizing that power to obliterate certain planets.

7 King Vegeta

Able To Kill Planets With A Single Ki Blast

  • First Appearance: Fighting Power: One Million?? (Anime)
  • Current Status: Dead

In a previous storyline known as the Frieza Saga, King Vegeta III, the father of the character we either admire or despise, made his first appearance. Through a flashback sequence, it’s revealed that he was driven by an insatiable desire for power, much like other Saiyans past and present. He followed Frieza not out of loyalty, but due to convenience and fear. Consequently, he oversaw the devastation of numerous planets, and in additional content (the OVAs), he’s depicted using powerful energy blasts to annihilate several worlds.

Despite being unaware of the tragic destiny that awaited his own planet, Vegeta III continued to carry out Frieza’s orders and destroy various worlds. By the time he discovered that his homeworld, the Saiyans’, was next on the Emperor’s list for annihilation, it was already too late. He perished alongside his world, maintaining his proud stance until he could witness his son, who was off-planet at the time, transforming into a Super Saiyan in accordance with his final will.

6 Vegeta

He Used To Be Bad, You Know?

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball manga chapter #204 “Sayonara, Son Goku”
  • Current Status: Alive

Vegeta possesses an unquestionable power level, capable of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Goku, and even being in line to succeed Beerus as the God of Destruction. Since his return to Earth following the devastation of Namek, and Bulma’s care that brought him back to full health, Vegeta has evolved into a formidable warrior, showing glimpses of exceptional fatherhood (though not quite perfect) as an earthling genius inventor’s creation.

Indeed, wasn’t Vegeta portrayed as a villain who devastated entire planets? To clarify, in a previous scene, we witness Vegeta annihilating Planet Arlia when serving under Frieza’s command. It is also mentioned that he destroyed numerous other planets too. So, it’s accurate to say that Vegeta has been a destroyer of worlds. Despite this dark past, Vegeta struggles with the weight of his actions but doesn’t let guilt consume him due to his immense pride.

5 Majin Buu

This Thing Has Killed Several Worlds

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball Manga #460 “Majin Buu Appears!”
  • Current Status: Alive

This long-forgotten, wicked being has laid waste to numerous planets. His creator and overlord, the sorcerer Babidi, once unleashed him to reduce entire societies to smoldering ruins. The enormity of his malevolent deeds was such that not even the Kaios Council hesitated to interfere, aiming to thwart his reawakening.

Despite the fact that it didn’t make a significant difference, this individual miraculously returned from the dead, wreaking havoc by slaughtering thousands, transforming people into sweets like candy, cookies, and chocolate, and committing other heinous acts. Of course, he also murdered his own master, demonstrating that he was an unstoppable force of destruction. Following the release of his malevolent self, he seems to have transformed into a source of amusement and protector for his closest companion: Mr. Satan.

4 Babidi

Destroyed Entire Worlds Out Of Spite

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball Z # 252 Bobbidi the Warlock
  • Current Status: Dead

A minuscule, insect-like extraterrestrial being, possessing a twisted intellect and an icy disposition was Babidi, once a malevolent mage. He reveled in the annihilation of entire planets and civilizations, until his destructive spree was halted by the intervention of the Council of Kaios.

Well, even though I was momentarily locked away, Babidi didn’t let that slow him down. This seemingly insignificant being possesses an immense power capable of annihilating entire planets. He’s just got a knack for letting his minions carry out the dirty work while he basks in the misery from his throne, reveling in the chaos he creates.

3 Zamasu

No One Has The Right To Live If He Says So

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball Super Episode #47 – Goku Black
  • Current Status: Dead

Zamasu is beyond rehabilitation; he embodies pure malevolence and insanity. Before assuming Goku’s form as Goku Black, he had already been wreaking havoc by eradicating worlds. Even before this transformation, Zamasu was quick to eliminate anyone he considered unworthy.

Throughout the Goku Black saga, it’s been revealed through flashbacks that Zamasu wasn’t just responsible for destroying two civilizations, but also for leveling an entire planet. Despite being advised to keep emotions in check by his master, it seems likely that Zamasu may have destroyed multiple worlds prior to Goku, Vegeta, and Future Trunks intervening, effectively ending one of his destructive rages.

2 Beerus

His Job Is Literally Destroying Worlds

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (Movie 2013)
  • Current Status: Alive

Beware not to be deceived by his adorable feline resemblance to a sphynx cat, for this being is none other than Beerus, the Deity of Destruction. He once roamed the cosmos, eliminating unstable or imbalanced planets, acting as a kind of universal balancer, restoring order in a universe plagued by chaos.

Despite his goals remaining somewhat unclear (apart from enjoying desserts and finding someone to succeed him when he retires), he has taken on the role of mentor for both Vegeta and Goku, with a stronger focus on Vegeta since Goku appears to be pursuing a different path. For now, he seems to have stepped away from the World Destruction business, but it’s important to remember that he could potentially flare up and destroy a few celestial bodies at any moment.

1 Zeno Sama

This God Erases Entire Universes With A Flick Of His Fingers

Dragon Ball: Characters Who Have Destroyed Planets
  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball Super manga #13 – “The Winning Universe Is Decided!”
  • Current Status: Alive

A enigmatic entity, often referred to as the Creator and Destroyer of all things, is known as Zeno (or Xeno) Sama, the supreme deity among deities, and the ruler over all. Seated on his limitless throne, he governs countless universes, in conjunction with the Father of all Angels, or the Grand Minister. His omnipresence transcends life in every realm, and possessing the power to end them at his discretion if he deems it necessary.

The High Ranking Official shared with Whis and Goku that Zeno had previously annihilated worlds and intended to carry on doing so. Interestingly, he was planning to eliminate multiple universes, but found it amusing to determine which ones would be spared by hosting a martial arts competition (at Goku’s suggestion). Consequently, an entire Dragon Ball Super saga revolves around the survival of these universes, where the outcome is determined through a fierce battle tournament.
