As a long-time fan of the Dragon Ball series, I’m beyond excited for the upcoming anime project, Dragon Ball DAIMA. The latest trailer and plot details have only fueled my anticipation further. The concept of Goku and his friends being turned small due to a conspiracy is an intriguing twist that has me hooked.

New trailers and preview images for the upcoming “Dragon Ball DAIMA” anime have been unveiled, providing a sneak peek into the latest addition to the series. The trailer generated mixed reactions after the initial announcement of the anime in October 2023. The broadcast schedule for “Dragon Ball DAIMA,” which is set to debut in Fall 2024 and commemorates the 40th anniversary of Akira Toriyama’s iconic work, was reconfirmed in the new trailer.

October marks the arrival of “Dragon Ball DAIMA,” an upcoming release in the “Dragon Ball” series. This event is especially exciting for fans as it will coincide with the unveiling of “Sparking! Zero,” the long-awaited sequel to the “Budokai Tenkaichi” games, which concluded with “Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4” in 2007.

As someone who has grown up watching anime and manga, I can tell you that “DAIMA” is not a term I’m familiar with. In Japanese characters, it translates to 大魔, which could be interpreted as “Great Evil” or simply “Evil.” However, this is just a representation in the form of symbols.

What We Know About DAIMA

Basic Plot Information

Dragon Ball DAIMA Reveals New Trailer

Last year in October at New York Comic Con, it was revealed that “Dragon Ball DAIMA” would be coming out in Fall 2024. The main storyline hasn’t been elaborated on much yet, but creator Toriyama mentioned that the show will focus on the regular Dragon Ball characters after a mysterious conspiracy causes them all to revert back into childhood. Fans have playfully dubbed this new series as the “sequel” to “Dragon Ball GT,” due to its resemblance to the originating event of that anime-only series. The trailers for “Dragon Ball DAIMA” offered glimpses into its visuals, but all were accompanied by uplifting music.

Dragon Ball DAIMA Reveals New Trailer

In the January edition of V Jump magazine, it was revealed that Aya Komaki and Yoshitaka Yashima, known for their roles as animation directors in “One Piece” and “Dragon Ball Super” respectively, will head the “DAIMA” project as series directors. Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, who has worked on key animations for various “Dragon Ball” movie projects and designed characters for the “Digimon” franchise, will be in charge of character design, adapting Toriyama’s original designs. Yūko Kakihara, recognized for her series composition work on “Cells At Work!”, is responsible for scriptwriting and series composition. Unlike the recent “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” anime, which featured 3D animation, “DAIMA” returns to the classic 2D style that has been a staple of the franchise since its inception. So far, Masako Nozawa, the voice actress for Goku, is the only cast member announced.

Dragon Ball DAIMA premieres in October.
