Dragon Ball Daima: Why Do Majin Kuu and Duu Look So Different from Buu?

Summary

  • Majin Kuu and Duu have Saibamen DNA, making them resemble the green creatures.
  • Majin Duu resembles Fat Buu more than Kuu, likely due to using more of Buu’s essence.
  • Majin Duu may be comparable to Fat Buu in strength, while Kuu is weaker but more intelligent.

As a long-time fan of Dragon Ball Z and its subsequent series, I must say that the introduction of these new Majins, specifically Majin Kuu and Majin Duu, has certainly added an exciting twist to the storyline. Coming from someone who’s watched Goku grow from a young boy to the Super Saiyan God, it’s fascinating to see how these new characters compare.

Majin Duu, with his increased exposure to Buu’s essence and deeper-buried Saibaman seed, appears to be quite the force to reckon with, even surpassing the power level of Goku in his Super Saiyan 2 form during the Buu Saga. However, Majin Kuu, despite his quick thinking and problem-solving skills, seems to lack the raw power needed to make a significant impact on the battlefield.

All jokes aside, I’m eagerly awaiting the upcoming episodes to see how these newcomers develop and what challenges they will face in the world of Dragon Ball Daima. Will they become allies or enemies? Only time will tell. In the meantime, let’s hope they don’t try to turn me into candy like their predecessor!

As a long-time fan of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, I can confidently say that if you haven’t watched Episode 12 of Dragon Ball Daima titled “True Strength,” now streaming on Crunchyroll, then you’re missing out! This episode was filled with unexpected twists and emotional moments that truly showcased the depth and growth of our beloved characters. So, I urge you to set aside some time this week to catch up on Dragon Ball Daima Episode 12 – trust me, it’s worth it! (Note: This post contains spoilers for those who haven’t seen the episode yet.)

For many years, Majin Buu was the only one of his kind. However, in Dragon Ball Daima’s ninth episode, “Thieves,” a new character named Majin Kuu entered the scene, marking a change for Majin Buu. And just when you thought it couldn’t get more dramatic, episode 11, titled “Legend,” introduced another possible sibling of Majin Buu: Majin Duu. Despite some similarities, both of these characters exhibit differences compared to their pink counterpart.

In episode 8 of “Dragon Ball Daima,” titled “Tamagami,” it was disclosed that a sorceress named Marba, not Bibidi’s father, Bibidi, was responsible for crafting Kid Buu. Later, Marba created more artificial Majins using fragments of Buu’s essence, which they served Arinsu, a secretive Glind with aspirations to usurp Gomah’s position as the Demon King. This is how Majin Kuu and Duu came into being. It’s worth mentioning that while other members of Majin Buu’s species do exist in non-canonical Dragon Ball media, such as games like Xenoverse, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Dragon Ball Online, Majin Kuu and Duu are the first confirmed characters to carry Buu’s genetic code.

Majin Kuu and Duu Have Some Saibamen in Them

Yes, like the Creatures That Killed Yamcha

Although originating from Majin Buu’s essence, Majin Kuu and Duu appear to be a blend of various species, with a significant influence from the Saibamen, the same creatures used by Saiyans during the Saiyan Saga to prepare the Z Fighters. Their green color is attributed to this Saibaman DNA, and Majin Kuu’s appearance leans more towards a Saibaman than Majin Buu. While Marba does not explicitly state it, she suggests that there are other distinctions in the composition of Majin Kuu and Duu compared to Buu. Marba viewed Majin Buu as a failure due to his chaotic nature, which prompted her to modify the recipe for future creations, making them more loyal and obedient. These alterations could potentially explain why Majin Kuu and Duu differ in appearance from Buu.

Majin Duu’s Closer Resemblance to Buu

The likeness and character of Majin Duu seem more akin to Fat Buu than Majin Kuu, and this might be due to the fact that a larger portion of Buu’s essence was employed in his creation. Duu mirrors Fat Buu in terms of figure, wiggly antenna, and steam vents on his head. However, it remains uncertain if Duu possesses Buu’s ability to regenerate and mold his body into bubble gum or if his antenna can transform people into candy like Buu’s does. One notable difference between the two is that Duu is green with pointed ears characteristic of Demon Realm Majins, while Buu is pink with crater-shaped ears.

Are Majin Kuu and Duu as Powerful as Kid Buu?

How Do the Newcomers Compare?

I’m absolutely thrilled about the power level of Majin Duu! While it’s not quite on par with Kid Buu right now, he certainly holds his own against Good/Fat Buu, given their current displays. Duu effortlessly overpowers Tamagamis, who are said to be stronger than the late Demon King Daburah. The only instance where Duu seemed vulnerable was when hunger weakened him, but even then, he managed to avoid a decisive attack from the Tamagami. This suggests that Duu’s strength is at least comparable to Goku in his Super Saiyan 2 form during the Buu Saga.

However, it’s important to note that the Daburah who fought the Tamagami might have been without Babidi’s power-enhancing mind control. Nonetheless, based on what we’ve seen so far, Majin Duu’s full potential remains untapped. Who knows? In true Dragon Ball style, Duu might have a hidden transformation or abilities similar to Buu, which could potentially bring him close to Fat Buu’s power level!

As an observer, I note that the extraordinary power of Majin Duu could be traced back to the depth at which the Saibaman seed was planted and the amount of Buu’s essence used during his creation. Unlike Majin Kuu, where the seed was buried only five centimeters deep into Marba’s cauldron mixture, the seed for Majin Duu was placed twenty centimeters deep. This depth difference might have played a crucial role in making Duu more formidable than intended, as Marba had warned Arinsu that a deeper burial could lead to increased difficulty controlling the Majin, much like the original Kid Buu. However, disregarding these warnings seemed to pay off for Arinsu, as creating a stronger Majin, even if it was still weaker than the Tamagami, would have been futile otherwise.

Marba exclaimed, “Twenty centimeters? That’s quite a risky move! If something unexpected happens, the consequences might be severe.” – Marba expressing surprise and concern at Arinsu’s plan to bury the Saibaman seed that deep.

In contrast, Majin Kuu is no match for Buu. To be frank, Kuu struggled against Tamagami Number One, placing him roughly at Daburah’s level, or perhaps even weaker. However, don’t underestimate Kuu because he may not have much physical strength, but he appears to compensate with intelligence. A perfect example of this is when Kuu, after defeating Tamagami Number One in battle, helped Duu solve a series of numbers that were presented at an astonishing speed. Without Kuu, Duu would have surely failed, but thanks to Kuu’s quick thinking, he provided the answer instantly.
