In the world of Dragon Ball, the Saiyans are known as the most powerful fighters, and a big part of their strength comes from their ability to transform. All Saiyans with a tail can become giant apes by looking at the full moon, but it’s their Super Saiyan forms that truly make them incredibly dangerous. Even the first Super Saiyan level boosts their power by 50 times, making them a formidable force throughout the multiverse.
Man, ever since Goku first went Super Saiyan on Namek, the Saiyans have just kept getting more and more powerful transformations! By the time we got to Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, there were so many different Super Saiyan forms, each one seemingly stronger than the last. But it’s awesome and a little sad to realize not every Saiyan actually has the potential to reach those absolute peak levels of power.

Bardock: False Ultra Instinct
For a long time, Bardock’s most powerful transformation was his Great Ape form. However, that changed when he reappeared in the Dragon Ball Super arc, “Granolah the Survivor.” During a flashback where Bardock saves Granolah from Gas, Bardock gains a power boost that looks a lot like the first stage of Ultra Instinct. While it isn’t actually Ultra Instinct, it’s similar enough that Gas later recognizes the power when Goku uses the full version of Ultra Instinct during the same story arc.
Bardock’s ‘False Ultra Instinct’ is a powerful transformation that gives him an energy similar to a Super Saiyan and significantly increases his strength, allowing him to battle Gas effectively. It’s similar to a form Roshi uses against Jiren in the Dragon Ball Super manga’s Tournament of Power, but while Roshi relies on technique, Bardock’s version is purely about brute force.
Future Gohan: Super Saiyan 1
Future Gohan is arguably the most tragic character in all of Dragon Ball. In his timeline, Goku died from a heart virus before the Androids appeared, and soon after, all of his friends were killed, leaving him to survive completely alone. Because Goku died relatively early, after the battle with Frieza, Future Gohan never realized his full potential, believing the Super Saiyan transformation he achieved was the limit of his power. It seems he never became stronger than Goku’s power level of 150,000,000, which Goku had when fighting Frieza.
Future Gohan is just as naturally gifted as Gohan in the main timeline, but without guidance, he stops developing at the Super Saiyan 1 level. If Goku had survived a bit longer, he might have helped Gohan unlock his full potential. Instead, Future Gohan spends his life protecting his timeline from Androids 17 and 18, and does his best to train Future Trunks.
Goten: Super Saiayn 1
Goten became the youngest Super Saiyan ever at the age of seven. He quickly became as strong as his older brother, Gohan, and was only a little weaker than Trunks, even though Trunks received direct training from Vegeta while Goten was trained by his mother, Chichi. However, Goten isn’t very interested in fighting; he’d rather go on dates or play games with Trunks.
Goten isn’t weak, but he probably won’t become stronger than a regular Super Saiyan. Unlike his father, he lacks a strong fighting drive, and the Z-Fighters didn’t trust him enough to include him in battles against powerful enemies like Golden Frieza and Moro. With dedicated training, he could have at least achieved the Super Saiyan 2 level by now.
Trunks: Super Saiyan 1
The Trunks we see in the main Dragon Ball timeline isn’t as powerful as the Trunks from the future. Because he grew up in a more peaceful environment, he lacks the same motivation to become strong that his future self has. While he’s strong for his age and showed a lot of promise during the Majin Buu Saga, he hasn’t really developed his abilities in Dragon Ball Super.
Similar to Goten, Trunks’ most powerful form is the standard Super Saiyan. He’s strong enough to fight everyday crime as the Great Saiyaman X1, and while he manages to slightly injure Cell Max in the Dragon Ball Super manga, he still heavily relies on help from the Gammas. Ultimately, he needs to fuse with Goten to become Gotenks to truly make a difference.
Gotenks: Super Saiyan 3
Gotenks isn’t as prominent now, but he was once one of the most powerful Z-Fighters, ranking just behind Ultimate Gohan and Super Saiyan Vegito by the end of Dragon Ball Z. Even as a Super Saiyan, Gotenks surpassed Super Saiyan 3 Goku. He became even more powerful during his battle with Super Buu when he transformed into Super Saiyan 3. At that level, Gotenks was incredibly strong and likely could have defeated Super Buu if he had been fully focused.
Gotenks last appeared as a Super Saiyan 3 during the filler arc featuring Copy-Vegeta, where he was easily beaten by Copy-Vegeta in his Super Saiyan Blue form. Currently, in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Goten and Trunks have lost their ability to fuse properly. This results in a clumsy, overweight version of Gotenks who isn’t even capable of transforming into a Super Saiyan.
Cabba: Super Saiyan 2
While Cabba isn’t as strong as the other two Saiyans from Universe 6, he was the first in his universe to achieve the Super Saiyan transformation and is considered one of the most skilled warriors from Planet Sadala. He’s different from Kale and Caulifla, who gain power through S-Cells; Cabba transforms using traditional methods, triggered by his feelings.
During the Tournament of Power, Cabba reaches the Super Saiyan 2 level while battling Monna. His strong desire to save his universe, combined with his admiration for Vegeta, helps him unlock this powerful transformation. Notably, this form of Super Saiyan 2 appears only in the anime version of Dragon Ball Super and isn’t shown in the manga.
Caulifla: Super Saiyan 2
I’m seriously blown away by Caulifla! She’s basically Universe 6’s version of Goku – a total battle fanatic who lives for a good fight. What really gets me is how quickly she picks things up. She watched Cabba turn Super Saiyan once, and almost instantly figured out how to unlock her own Super Saiyan power using her S-Cells! It’s incredible how naturally talented she is.
During her battle with Goku in the Tournament of Power, Caulifla quickly achieved Super Saiyan 3 – a transformation that previously took Goku weeks of intense training to master. She then immediately progressed to Super Saiyan 2. Remarkably, Caulifla’s Super Saiyan 2 form was powerful enough to push Goku to use his Super Saiyan God transformation.
Kale: Legendary Super Saiyan
I’m absolutely fascinated by Kale! She’s seriously one of the strongest Saiyans in Universe 6, and what’s even cooler is that she’s the first canon Legendary Super Saiyan we’ve seen in Dragon Ball! It’s amazing how such a shy person can be so incredibly powerful. When she transforms in the Tournament of Power, she gets strong enough to actually overpower Super Saiyan Blue Goku! The only downside is that she can’t really control that incredible power, which is a bit of a struggle for her.
I’m a huge Dragon Ball Super fan, and I was blown away by Kale in the manga! She single-handedly wiped out multiple universes during the tournament – seriously! It’s hinted that even without her Legendary Super Saiyan form, she’s holding back and is way stronger than Caulifla. If she ever fully controls that LSSJ power, just like Broly, she’ll be absolutely unbeatable. It’s incredibly exciting to think about!
Future Trunks: Super Saiyan Rage
In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Future Trunks’ most powerful form is a fully controlled Super Saiyan 2. Inspired by how Goku and Gohan perfected Super Saiyan 1 for the Cell Games, Trunks used the same training methods and reached a power level comparable to Super Saiyan 3 Goku by the time he faced Goku Black. However, the Dragon Ball Super anime gives Future Trunks a different, God-like form for his final fight against Zamasu.
Future Trunks trained with Vegeta and unknowingly gained some of his father’s divine energy, known as God Ki, while preparing to return to his own time. When Trunks fought Fused Zamasu while intensely emotional, this God Ki manifested, unlocking a powerful new form called Super Saiyan Rage. In this form, Trunks was faster and stronger than Zamasu, even managing to slice him in half with his Sword of Hope. If Zamasu hadn’t been immortal, Trunks would have defeated him immediately.
Goku Black: Super Saiyan Rosé
Goku Black is a unique case among Saiyans. Because he’s actually Zamasu using Goku’s body, he can use the energy of a Saiyan, a Supreme Kai, and a God. When he tries to transform into Super Saiyan Blue, his different energy types combine, creating a twisted version called Super Saiyan Rosé – a form corrupted by Zamasu’s godly power.
Super Saiyan Rosé is a bit more powerful than the standard Super Saiyan Blue used by Goku and Vegeta. This form also grants Goku Black special skills, such as creating a scythe entirely from his energy. Notably, Goku Black didn’t initially have enough strength to achieve Super Saiyan Rosé and had to gain power through multiple Zenkai boosts before he could unlock it.
Kefla: Legendary Super Saiyan 2
Kefla, formed by the fusion of Caulifla and Kale, is the most powerful female fighter in the series after Heles. Because Kefla is partially made up of Kale, she’s essentially a Legendary Super Saiyan. This is supported by the green color her Super Saiyan hair takes on, a trait shared by both Kale and Broly. This also makes Kefla the only officially recognized character in Dragon Ball who can transform into a Legendary Super Saiyan 2.
When Kefla transforms into a Super Saiyan 2, she combines the powers of Caulifla and Kale, resulting in green hair with the typical Super Saiyan 2 electrical aura. This powerful form allowed her to battle evenly with Goku when he was using Ultra Instinct Sign, and she only lost because Goku was a more experienced fighter.
Broly: Legendary Super Saiyan
As a Dragon Ball fan, I’m still blown away by Broly’s Legendary Super Saiyan form! It’s way more powerful than just a regular Super Saiyan – we’re talking a massive power boost. In the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie, he actually powers up to the level of Gogeta, and there’s even a hint that he could put up a real fight against Beerus if they went all out! It’s not the same as the full power states Goku and Gohan reached during the Cell Games, though – this is something completely different and far more intense.
Broly’s unique Super Saiyan form, unlike the regular one, isn’t something he can just turn on whenever he wants. He’s currently training with Goku and Vegeta on Beerus’ planet, working to manage his feelings and learn how to activate the form himself. With Gohan Beast helping him as a training partner, he’s making good progress, and the latest hints suggest he’ll soon be able to fully control this powerful transformation.
Vegeta: Ultra Ego
As a Dragon Ball fan, I’m completely fascinated by Ultra Ego! It’s Vegeta’s incredible response to Goku’s Ultra Instinct, and it just fits his personality. While Ultra Instinct is all about dodging and reacting without thinking, Ultra Ego is the opposite – it thrives on taking damage! The more he’s hit, the stronger he gets, which is amazing. It’s actually pretty similar to the way Legendary Super Saiyan works, constantly pushing Vegeta to unlock even more of his hidden power the longer a fight goes on. It’s a transformation built for a Saiyan Prince who loves a good battle!
Vegeta hasn’t won a fight using Ultra Ego yet, but that’s simply because he’s still learning to control it. Ultra Ego gets stronger as Vegeta takes damage, and he sometimes gets carried away in battle, draining all his energy before he can finish the fight. That’s why he usually relies on his Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form (as seen in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103), even though Ultra Ego is ultimately his most powerful transformation.
Goku: Perfected Ultra Instinct
Since Goku first achieved Ultra Instinct during his fight with Jiren, the transformation has evolved through several stages. He’s used forms like Ultra Instinct Sign and True Ultra Instinct, but the most powerful version is known as Perfected Ultra Instinct.
During the Granolah the Survivor Saga, a more powerful version of Ultra Instinct briefly appeared, but as of Chapter 103 of Dragon Ball Super, Perfected Ultra Instinct is now Goku’s most powerful form. This form dramatically increases Goku’s speed, strength, and ability to defend against attacks, allowing him to easily withstand blows and dodge even the fastest strikes. Thanks to his training with Merus, Goku can now activate Perfected Ultra Instinct at will, overcoming the previous limitation of needing a calm and focused state of mind.
Gohan: Beast
Beast is a special transformation unique to Gohan. Similar to his Ultimate form from the Buu Saga, it unlocks all of Gohan’s hidden power, making it one of the strongest transformations in the Dragon Ball series. Gohan’s Beast form was powerful enough to defeat Cell Max in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and later proved its strength by defeating both Goku and Broly in the manga.
Gohan quickly mastered his new Beast form, able to use it at will after just a few hours of training. Whis is so impressed with its power that he suggests Gohan could eventually replace him as the God of Destruction for Universe 7. Currently, thanks to Beast, Gohan is the strongest of the main characters and second only to Black Frieza in overall power among mortals.
Vegito: Super Saiyan Blue
At the end of Dragon Ball Z, Super Saiyan Vegito was the most powerful character, but new, even stronger characters like Whis, Beerus, and Goku appeared in Battle of Gods. When Vegito reappeared during the Goku Black Saga, he was significantly more powerful. As Super Saiyan Blue Vegito, he easily outmatched Fused Zamasu and nearly defeated him.
The Potara earrings only allow mortals to maintain a fusion for a limited time, and that time is too short for someone as powerful as Vegito. When Vegito transforms into Super Saiyan Blue, his incredible strength shrinks the fusion’s duration to just a few minutes. If Vegito were to become any stronger than Super Saiyan Blue, the fusion would likely fall apart instantly.
Gogeta: Super Saiyan Blue
While it seems like Gogeta and Vegito should have similar power levels, Gogeta’s victories and accomplishments suggest he’s actually stronger. Vegito has never won a fight, but Gogeta managed to defeat the powerful Legendary Super Saiyan Broly.
Gogeta’s most powerful form is Super Saiyan Blue. He demonstrated its incredible strength during his battle with Broly, even managing to tear through the fabric of dimensions. Some believe Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta is as strong as, or even surpasses, the God of Destruction, Beerus.
