Dragon Ball The One is a global poll held on the official Dragon Ball website to find the series’ most popular character. It launched on November 20th with over 200 options, even including some rarely seen characters like the mermaid from the World Tournament Saga, a dolphin, and the blind boy healed by Majin Buu. The poll has already gone through three rounds, each eliminating a large number of contenders.
With the final round of Dragon Ball The One underway, only 21 characters are left out of the original 212. While most of the remaining characters were popular choices, some surprising omissions occurred. Fan favorites like Gotenks, Hercule, and all forms of Majin Buu were eliminated, while less expected characters advanced to the Top 20. Voting concluded on December 24th, and the final results are being tallied. The Top 10 and the most popular Dragon Ball character ever will be revealed on the official Dragon Ball YouTube channel on January 24, 2026.
Frieza Gets Snubbed While Raditz, Launch, & Dr. Briefs’ Cat Officially Make It To The Final Round

Several unexpected contestants made it into the Top 21. Here’s a look at those ranked from 21st to 11th place:
- 21. Android 17
- 20. Launch
- 19. Raditz
- 18. Videl
- 17. Goten
- 16. Bulma’s Family Cat
- 15. Tien Shinhan
- 14. Krillin
- 13. Chichi
- 12. Bulma
- 11. Frieza
It’s really surprising that Frieza and Krillin didn’t even make the Top 10. Frieza is often considered the most popular villain in the whole series – Dragon Ball Super even brought him back three times in different story arcs – but he was just edged out by Yamcha and another villain from DBZ. While Raditz and Launch appearing in the Top 20 is unexpected, it feels a little unfair considering their limited roles early on in Dragon Ball Z and the original Dragon Ball.
I’ve been following this meme poll, and it’s down to just Bulma’s Family Cat now – all the other contenders have been knocked out. Interestingly, Android 17 was actually eliminated earlier, but brought back by a fan vote, landing him at number 21 and into the final round. It’s a long shot, but you never know – maybe he’ll pull off a surprise win like he did in the Tournament of Power. Still, with the Top 10 being so strong, it doesn’t look very promising for him.
Future Trunks, Bardock, & Cell Just Barely Fail To Crack The Top 5

In a surprising turn of events, Future Trunks fell out of the top 5 rankings. Here’s how positions 10 through 5 ended up…
- 10. Yamcha
- 9. Android 18
- 8. Cell
- 7. Bardock
- 6. Future Trunks
It’s surprising to see Cell ranked higher than Frieza, but it’s understandable. Cell is the most recent major villain in the Dragon Ball Super anime, and the Cell Saga is a particularly beloved story arc, especially among fans who grew up watching Dragon Ball Z on Toonami. For many 90s kids, Cell is a more nostalgic villain than Frieza. Sadly, nostalgia wasn’t enough to save Future Trunks, who was overtaken in the Top 5 by a very popular fusion. Also, Android 18 is the only woman in the Top 10, which makes sense considering she’s the strongest female character in Dragon Ball Z.
It’s not a surprise to see Bardock ranked highly. While he didn’t have a large role in the original series, he’s the star of a popular DBZ movie (which is more like a long TV episode) and played a significant part in both Dragon Ball Super: Broly and the Granolah arc of the Dragon Ball Super manga. The biggest surprise in the Top 10 is Yamcha being included at all! It’s worth remembering that Yamcha was Goku’s first rival and the first character to ever beat him. Despite becoming a popular joke among fans, it’s good to see people recognizing Yamcha’s contributions to Dragon Ball.
Goku & Vegeta Battle It Out For The Number 1 Most Popular Dragon Ball Character

The actual Top 5 is not at all surprising,
- 5. Vegito
- 4. Piccolo
- 3. Gohan
- 2. Vegeta
- 1. Goku
As a longtime fan, I’ve always seen Vegito as the most powerful character in Dragon Ball Z – a combination of Goku and Vegeta, so it’s no surprise he’s a top contender. And Piccolo’s popularity is undeniable, especially after being a central figure in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero; I even heard he’s Akira Toriyama’s favorite! But honestly, I think the real fight for the number one spot is going to be between Goku and Vegeta. Goku’s been leading the polls since day one, but now that there are fewer characters left, Vegeta has a real chance to pull off an upset and become the most popular Dragon Ball character ever.
Gohan had a strong start, but his ranking has fallen. Now, Goku is the clear frontrunner, although Vegeta surprisingly beat him in their last fight in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Vegeta could become a fan favorite again, especially since he’s more popular with English-speaking audiences, while Goku generally has more international support. Ultimately, only one of these Super Saiyans will be victorious on January 24th – and unfortunately for him, it won’t be Piccolo.
