As someone who’s been through countless battles in the world of Dragon Ball games, I can confidently say that the Defense guide for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is a lifesaver! The game’s mechanics can be quite daunting for newcomers, but with this guide, even the greenest Z-Warrior can stand their ground.
Approaching the release of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero’s early access, newcomers to the game might find its PvP mode challenging due to unfamiliar mechanics. To help ease the learning curve, here’s a comprehensive guide on mastering the defense mechanics in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
In the game Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, defending can sometimes be misleading as your character is constantly at risk of being hit by a series of explosions, energy blasts, punches, and kicks. When you’re in tight spots like these, there are four different defense strategies available to you in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero – Guarding, Recovery, Counters, and Evasion.
How to Defend in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero
Guarding
In Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, the fundamental defense method is using Guards. To execute a High or Low Guard, press R1/RB while moving Up or Down respectively. Remember, prolonged guarding can backfire; a Guard Break could leave you exposed and potentially put you at a disadvantage.
Recovery
Recovery is a quick way to get back into action in the game. There are two ways to recover: Ground/Wall recovery, executed by pressing down before hitting a wall or ground, and Dragon Dash recovery, which lets you take the fight back to your opponent directly. It can be performed by pressing up before hitting the ground or wall.
Counters
In the latest version of Dragon Ball, Sparking Zero, a fresh Defense mechanism called Counters has been introduced, which can be broken down into four main components: Super Awareness, Z-Counters, Retaliation Counter, and Super Counters.
In simpler terms, using Super Perception involves having O/B (Offensive or Block) ready before taking an opponent’s attack. The energy cost for this ability can fluctuate based on the strength of your counterattack, ranging from Ki to Skill points. With Super Perception activated, players can perform a move similar to Sonic Sway, which is much like MUI Goku’s evasion technique when facing Rush Attacks.
Before an opponent lands a Vanishing Assault, it’s crucial to perform a Z-counter. To do this, simply press R1 (on PlayStation) or RB (on Xbox. The Z-Counter lasts until one of the players makes a mistake with their input. Moreover, the longer the Z-Counters you encounter, the more damage they will inflict.
Revenge Counters are the best way to get out of a sticky situation. However, they do cost a Skill Count. The Revenge Counter can counter any attack, whether melee or blast attack and can also be used while you are being attacked. It is one of the strongest defense moves in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero and can be performed by pressing the R3/R stick.
In many attacks, players also have the option of using a maneuver called Super Counter. Interestingly, this move isn’t just for offense but can be used when under attack as well. However, timing is crucial here. To execute this move, simultaneously press the ‘up’ key along with either Square/X and watch your opponent get sent flying!
Evasion
In Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, the final defense mechanism is called Evasion, which players can execute in two methods: High-Speed Evasion and Step-in Sway. High-Speed Evasion involves pressing R1/RB just before certain attacks to dodge them and establish an opportunity for a counterattack. On the other hand, Step-in Sway allows you to evade an attack by simultaneously tapping X/A and R1/RB.
